Hi all,
I will be cutting out the rear crossmember and welded on tow package on my 80 sometime in the next month or so. New bumper coming from Avid offroad. I've never done any cutting on a vehicle, so just want a safety check. Any reason I should avoid using a grinder with cutoff wheel? That is what I naturally gravitate toward for this job. I just changed the in tank fuel pump today, but figure the spillage from that will all be long gone in a couple weeks.

Appreciate your input and any tips/tricks as well.

Brad

Just use a full face shield if you use a grinder with cut off wheels. You’ll get more control with a grinder than you will with a sawzall.
Makes sense. I have a welding helmet that has a grinder setting for the glass, so should be good. Thanks
