If Jim is not interested I will be more than happy to try it out but I am running a Chevy TBI and thus have an external electric fuel pump...

We have a tester!

Anyone willing to kick in some money to help him buy a tank? Tim will document the process and test the tank fit. We will all benifit by not having to pay $600 for the MAF tank if this one works. Nobody will be out much money if it doesn't fit.

Anyone?

If I can cover atleast half I am more than happy to do it....I will be more thna happy to document any and all issues with both digital pics and a written review...so let me know who all is interested... Thanks Guys...

thats a good idea. I was thinking of something like this. Last I measured I thought there was only 33" +/- between the frame rails, could be wrong though. Anyone have access to one of these tanks to get some accurate measurements? I could drawit up in Autocad A see how well it would fit as well as design mounts etc...

measurements

36C 26 34

er, those are not for the tank... i think the measurements for both the ford tank and the chev tank are on that lmctruck site... if not they can prolly give them to you over the phone or you can call the dealer parts dept. to get them...

if he is gonna use the chev i can measure mine at the shop and post them... but i thought jim said that the ford 38 gallon prolly would make the best candidate.

I am lookin to use the Ford tank since the filler is in the more corrrect location....But I am always open to sugesstions..

How about finding out about the return policy. Order one, if it doesn't work send it back....

Why are the sending units like half the price of the tank???

I sure would like to get a couple of other people interseted in this before I embark on this project....

im in on this one. my buddy has a 79 ford f 250 and a 38 gal tank. already measured it and it *looks* like it would fit. ill throw in $10 to find out...

Great thread, I would love to get a longer range tank in my FJ60. Hmmmmmmmmm. I may be able to go to the salvage yard and get the tank cheap if somthing if found to work. I live in a relatively rust free place, and good trucks find their way into the salvage yard all the time.... Could give me a cheaper alternative.

nope, its black plastic
Wonder where that came from?

Maybe there is/was a USA source that had rotomolded plastic tanks for FJ60? If so, maybe they could rotomold a 30 or 40 gal. tank relatively cheaply.

Are you sure it is black plastic??? Mine looks plastic but are pretty sure its metal....did you bang on it???

OK, slid underneth the F350 & the FJ60 today and measured.

The FJ60 tank is rectangular, appx 30 x36 inches.
The '89 F350 rear tank is rectangular, 26 x 34".

Both tanks are retained by simple straps.

Both tanks have fill necks entering on the side, above the frame rail.

Looks like the extended depth F350 tank would easily fit between the wider rails of the FJ60 frame.
The spare tire and crossmember would have to disappear, but that is part of installing any extended tank.

Somebody really needs to do this.
A 38 gall. tank for less than $200 would be very kewel!:bounce:

Well, maybe I will do it. The rear tank on the duallie is shot. Been thinking about replacing it, but didn't want to spend the money on a vehicle that is going to be sold very soon.. If I buy the 38gal. tank, and it can't be made to work on the FJ60, at least I can stick it under the '350.

Anybody want to buy a 7.3L 5spd F350, w/ leaky rear tank, multicolored paint and rust?

Good I am happy that someone will...I think it is too good an idea to pass on...I am still planning on the project but might be a couple of months...gotta get the cruiser fund back in teh positive:) :)

I'm not really in the market for a tank, but I have to commend euclid's pitch-in motivational method. That's really brilliant.

I'm trying to get a rear tire/jerry can rack built. If that goes through I might fool around with this idea. It won't be soon cause the rack deal has stalled.

I do have a source for clean Chev and Ford tanks , ( "U-Pull wrecking yard)

Here are some questions I've come up with that I'd want have a guess at before I dove in to the project.

When lining up the fill spouts; do they make filler hose in a "Flex" universal and/or different lenghts that you can get at NAPA or etc?

Will the tank venting be similiar?

Will the fuel gauge from the Toyota seal into the top of the US tank?

would you just add to the stock (toyota) gauge rod to make it work in the US tank deeper tank?

Maybe this is allready universally known, so lead me to a link..
