Stuck Rear Door (Closed) - Lock Cable Detached at Latch? (2000 100-Series)

Hey guys, I'm stuck in a Catch-22 and need some wisdom before I resort to breaking things.

Vehicle: 2000 Toyota Land Cruiser with 509,000 miles

The Problem: Passenger rear door is stuck shut. Will not open from the inside or outside. Behaves as if it is permanently locked.

What I know / What I've tried:

• I rebuilt all 5 actuators with new motors more than a year ago. They have worked perfectly until today.
• I popped the interior handle bucket/bezel off to inspect the cables.
• The door release cable is firmly attached, but the lock cable glides back and forth with zero resistance.
• Because of the lack of resistance, I suspect the latch-end of the lock cable has popped completely off the latch mechanism at the rear of the door.

The Dilemma: The latch is physically stranded in the "locked" position. Pulling the cables from the front does nothing, and I obviously can't open the door to take the door card off to reach the latch.

Has anyone else been caught in this Latch/Catch-22? Looking for the best non-destructive angle of attack. Thanks!

Believe it or not, it's happened before. The other times people have been able to get the door card off while it's closed.

Thanks! Do you know how people have removed the door card while the door is closed without damaging it?

You'd have to search for those threads, I'd look for like "rear door", titles only, 100 section only, or some variant of that.

Not sure how you’d get the door card off with the door closed. There are 4 plastic rivets and 2 screws to remove, and all are hidden when the door is closed. Curious how others have managed that.

If you remove the interior latch and the courtesy light, you might be able to fish a bore scope and a “pickle grabber” tool into the right spot to release that lock.

Maybe could access the side pins if you remove the interior trim pieces on both sides but I don’t see how you would remove the lower screws. Could help with fishing something in there if you could open up the sides a bit though.

Here is a borescope video showing the inner and outer door handles operating but the door remains locked.
