Unbelieveable...Why does this kinda stuff always happen to me?!

Well, I just installed my new headers and everything went great until I stripped one of the header bolts. I took out the stud after I could feel the the nut spinning. After removing the stud, I could see aluminum shavings on the threads of the stud.

What's the best way to repair this?

Also, what do you guys recommend for better nuts or studs so these damn stock nuts don't back out?

Please help! Appreciate it.

It happens all the time, it's not unbelieveable at all.

And I bet it's the veray last one, right next to the firewall, as it usually is. The hardest one to reach.

My preferred repair method is Helicoil or Timesert. NAPA sells a Helicoil kit specifically made for this repair, it's so common.

This is why I Helicoiled ALL of them as a preventive measure when I had my head off. Much easier to do then, with the head on a drill press.

And I always go to the dealer and get NEW OEM studs and nuts every time I mess with them, I never try to reuse them.

Well, thanks for making me feel better, thought I was a tard for doing it..

It's actully the top nut closest to the front of the rig....

So, I assume that I have to remove the header to do the heliicoil deal? Is there a certain size helicoil kit I need to get?

Thanks bud, appreciate the help

Lucky bastid. I always seem to get the ones that are the worst ones to deal with.

I have installed Helicoils while leaving the manifold on, so you should be OK.

I can't remember the thread pitch, I believe it's M10x1.25 but can't check it as I'm not at home. Maybe someone else can confirm.

I think you're right on the stud size, looking at another page here, they also say M10X1.25..

Appreciate the help bud, now I can relax a little.
