Wow Keith that's a rough time at Stoney. If you figure out what keeps popping the low range out let me know. I have the same problem, I have tried changing the geometry a bit and it has helped some but every once in a while the 2.8:1 low pops out. Most of the time I just run my 4.7:1 case since it doesn't pop out.

This was pretty much everywhere I ever hit the gas. If Matt hadn't been riding with me and been able to use the shifter as an oh-@&*)! handle to keep it engaged, I would have likely just quit after the first hill. I was in half dig and didn't even realize it until the ass started sliding out.
All in all it was a really fun day. I had a pretty tippy off camber rear wheel raise as I dropped front passenger into a rut that I think may have made Matt soil his shorts and my passenger seat, but the truck did well other than the tire problems and the shifter issue. The buddy of mine from TacomaWorld that has the XJ (I know, Jeeper on a Tacoma forum, weird), brought some other Jeep friends, and they wanted to hit some of the tougher stuff, so we hung with them in the afternoon and they were a fun group. All had radios, less getting out and talking, more wheeling.
There was a guy in a 2wd Tacoma at first, with the whole group of like 12 trucks, and it made it pretty miserable. I think 6 trucks or so, all with CB's, may be the best way to do it.
A group of 10-15 trucks is way better if you can just roll through, like skyway or something where there's nothing really hairy going on.
Yes, yes the off camber part might have gotten me a little but nearly as bad as the rutted out section when you lifted the rear drivers side wheel and for a moment we both thought it was going over.
Also the Gold One performed well minus the staying 4 lo and the tire slashing sale. The second tire was cut on Turkey Hill for those that been out there.
I second Keith's thoughts on the guys that went they all seemed like good people and I would ride with them again. well except for the "flexing guy" heeper that kept trying to find the perfect spot to "flex" out his heep.
My truck is a half-bred setup and I was having problems with the tc popping out of gear...mainly in 4 low. I tried the HD springs from marlin and resorted to using a bungee cord at times.... Turned out the floor board needed some additional trimming to adequately clear the shifter linkage. Was very aggravating for tc to pop out of gear on long steep hill climbs. At least for me this issue solved. I assume a broken or loose mount would cause similar issues too.
Yeah, I'm gonna pull that metal piece that makes up the new "console" and see what's hitting.
Also discovered under flex the breather on the front axle is nowhere near long enough. It was dangling loose when I got home, and when I put the hi-lift on it to swap things around with the guy whose tire I rode home on, it was really obvious how short it is. Depending on when it came off relative to the couple of deep standing water spots we drove through, looks like it's not a bad thing that i'm going to need to change the gear oil as part of re-sealing the thirds.
Unfortunately saving the admission wouldn't go far enough to buy new tires
Though, fortuitously, we only paid $10/truck this weekend because they gave us a club discount for the group. Worth noting, if we're ever going to do a club ride out there. Call ahead, get good pricing. Winning.
A friend of mine just bought this and is looking to find some more street friendly tires for it. He is working on a trade already but if it falls through you might want to make an offer. He has five of them:
