stock quarter panel thickness

so, I'm cutting out a couple of spots and want to weld some metal in, what is the stock thickness and what should I replace it with? The pieces I cut out were really rusty on the backside so I don't know if I'm getting a correct measurement with my calipers. thanks

Early trucks the metal is 16 ga later trucks it's 18ga. What year you talking about?

oh, I forgot about that................69. I remember there being a rust issue with the later trucks due to the thinner gauge metal. thanks
