Stock light added to rear hatch (1 Viewer)

hey guys- for those of you that have added a stock dome light into your hatch...
Did you just screw the four screws into the plastic in the hatch? Or did you add any backing?
Looking to install one or two this weekend.

No backing plate here. May have pre drilled the holes but honestly cant remember.

No backing here. Just the four screws. I think I tried to use sheet metal screws long enough to bite into the steel behind the plastic trim. As Jason said, I also predrilled the holes.

BTW, I think this is one necessary mod. I take my light for granted anytime I lift the rear hatch and use the tailgate as a work surface.
