stock charge volt gage

I left my truck parked for 2 weeks well i was in the US
my buddie started it a few times for and now the "volt charge gage" on the cluster (top right) is always reading at almost 18 when it use to always be bang on in the middle. any idea why the sudden change?! could the alt be packing it in?

I'd get a volt meter and check what you're getting at the battery... If the voltage regulator took a dive you could be over charging.....
