Stereo upgrade - Pioneer DVD player install

Ours are different in that respect, as each "mode" if you will is separate and to switch from one to the other cancels out the last. Now if there were a way to get the home screen (screen behind the ipod controls) to be the live video feed this could work well and you just hide the ipod controls.

Between conscious and awake I came up with this and feel free to flame or move this is to much a hijack has occurred. On the Pioneer P4100 there are many in's and out's. The video in I'm using for my baby cam also has audio in just below it. If I use a RCA Y-cable from the stereo pre-outs and connect them to the audio in I might have music while watching the baby albeit not the same quality as the front and rear will be reduced to L and R, this is all assuming the ipod isn't shut down when modes are changed.

Scratch that it didn't work at all, just locks up my ipod.

Not sure about yours but totally possible with my HU. I connected the camera input to the AV port. I switch the background to "AV" in the setup screen and instead of those lines you see the camera view. You hit "hide" in the lower right and the ipod (or whatever) menu disappears. (EDIT for impotant :hillbilly: info) I did have to rig a switch to simulate the park brake activation. I don't believe you can just ground the wire ... the Pioneer unit wants to see that you "activated" the brake at each use.

If you select the "reverse" mode from the main screen it will show the reverse camera view... touching the screen will revert to belly cam and the switch to the reverse view after 15-20 secs over and over as you want.

I made this little vid last weekend ... you have wait to the end but I took a shot of the belly cam (yeah it is shaky but you try it :D ) while going up a stream bed ... you can hear Foghat's Slow Ride playing from the iPod

We (RockSlide and I) are running a relay bypass do hicky that simulates park, this is a known hack for being able to watch video while driving. Pioneer AVH-4000 DVD Install w/pics . - TundraTalk.net - Toyota Tundra Discussion Forum I will try to see if the screen will allow this change it would be soo sweet.

Nice! I've been looking at this HU for awhile. Now I know for sure this HU will fit my 80.

Not sure on the 4100, on the 4000 select:
"AV menu" (lower left) ...
"system set-up" ...
Two things to set-
the source should be set to "Video"
and the background set to "AV"
That should do it

Good luck

Aaron, let me know if what TCH2FLY said works...as you already have your HU installed :D. That'd be awesome if it would!

For everyone else, here's a question both me and Aaron are having a hard time with. Don't know if it's different between LCs and 4Runners, but it's to do w/ the power antenna:

How are you hooking up the 2 power antenna wires to your new HU? I know this is a diversity antenna setup, but our new HU only has a place for one antenna (I'm assuming the larger one plugs in there). What do I do with the smaller connector from the back glass antenna? Leave it unplugged?

Also, how should we wire our new wiring harness so the power antenna goes up when the radio is selected and down when the CD/ipod is selected?

just received this head unit UPS today. Anyone know where to get a wiring harness online so that I don't have to cut into factory wiring? I looked around and cant find anything. Going simple for now. No subs no cameras. Undecided on teh Ipod controler. Might just run it through the front aux for now. I installed pioneer door speakers a year ago. Looking forward to seeing how much better this makes those speakers sound. Next is the sub install. If anyone is still looking for these, they are getting hard to find at a decent price. I bought one on ebay new, but got an email a couple days later saying that they are sold out. Found another vendor and actually got it cheaper ($325 new with no shipping or tax, but it took a week to get to me from NY)

Nice thread hijack! Try best buy, walmart, or local auto parts store.

Aaron

Hijack...I don't see it as that. It was on topic. Odd too since you accuse yourself of hijacking above, but I really don't care either way.

Instead of the switch for the brake line, you can install a relay on the wire. Instructions are here:
How to bypass a Pioneer AVH-P4000? - Page 2 - Toyota FJ Cruiser Forum
this means that you don't have to run any wire to the brake line. It all stays in behind the stereo making wiring easier. I want to do it this way, but hesitate because my 16 year old daughter drives the 80 also and I don't want her driving while watching tv. I might put in the relay and put a switch hidden somewhere under the dash so that it only works when the switch is flipped.

Hope thats on topic enough. :flipoff2:

XC is just screwing w/ you...don't take it to heart. :grinpimp:

You can pick up a Toyota wiring harness almost any where...just google toyota wiring harness or metra toyota wiring harness toyota and you'll find plenty of places online. And like mentioned, walmart, best buy and so on carry these wiring harnesses too.

The relay mod works great on the 4100 series too. Probably a good idea to run a switch to it though if your daughter will be driving the vehicle. I'll admit, it is difficult to drive and "listen" to a DVD...I keep wanting to look down and watch!

The reason you have trouble is because of the gay porn that you watch or listen too on your way to work, no doubt! Only kidding, it could be trouble but on long trips my gosh it keeps the occupants at bay.
