Steering column purchase (1 Viewer)

I want to switch my 76’ steering column back to the original or (?suggestions?) ... because the on my PO put on is just not working well so much extra s*** that I don’t need. From something in ‘84 - don’t know what.
Questions:
Should I go back to original?
What should I check before diving in and purchasing a steering column?
Other thoughts?
