It is an old school look. I have it on two of mine and it is covering rust. On one, I think it is actually the only thing holding the rear tub together!!!

If you like the look, buy the pre bent panels from Spector or Manafree and bolt the things on. Last I heard, it was your cruiser...

Know that you will catch crap for most things you do to the cruiser. Just part of the fun.

As for 4rnr.... he loves diamond plate, he is adding a sheet or two to his 4 runner as we type. The bright shiny crap!

I just built a bumper for a guy who bought a new Aqualu aluminum tub and was putting diamond plate on the corners because he liked the look.
Not my taste at all but "to each his own".
Color is kind of that same way, i like my olive drab, some don't.
Some dudes prefer dudes, I like women.
Some women prefer women, I'm cool with that.

I hate you

And that is one reason not to do it. 90% of the cruisers with diamond plate on the back are covering up rust. If you do it it will be assumed you are hiding bad body panels. It would be a shame to hide good panels.

and it will cause rust in a place that it's very rare not to have it.

It is your truck and you can do whatever you want with it. The diamond plate does look good on the corners.

alright wel thanks guys for the advice. would've sucked to have spent all this time on the truck and then have it rust through very quickly...

i'll try to get those quarters hammered out

If you have the money get patch panels. But if you have rusty rockers, and wheel well issues, you may want to look into a 1/2 tub or 3/4 tub. Of course that is if you plan on a resto...;)

Strangely enough what we've been saying is exactly what the whole board is saying in your other thread.

https://forum.ih8mud.com/40-55-series-tech/359370-diamondplate-acceptable.html

If you are going to ask for advice, then keep asking other people until you get the answer you want, nobody is going to give you advice anymore.

Fxxx I hate it when people do that.

It's not that I don't respsect you 4rnr...but any other opinions out there?

Ask enough people the same question and you will eventually get the answer you want.

That's why I threw up the :deadhorse: Screw it, it ain't my truck. You can make it look like a Hummer if you want. You asked for an opinion I gave you mine. Now if you don't mind, I have other threads to deposit my opinions upon.

got it phil....beating a dead horse...so then stop beating it.

I'm not trying to discredit or disregard ANYONE's opinion. I'm terribly sorry if it seemed that way. I thought Phil and 4rnr were going to be the only ones who were going to comment on this thread which is why i took it to the normal section so I could get more opinions.

Phil, I know i asked your opinion and I appreciate your opinion and suggestions. HOWEVER, it is obvious that people on this forum have very differing opinions and my intent with starting the other thread was NOT to find the answer I was looking for, but rather to see if Phil and 4rnrs advice was the overwhelming majority. which it is not.

The majority says "each to his own" with a few strings attached, those strings being rust and having a truck that screams "i'm a rustbucket under this diamondplate"

So sorry for any misunderstandings, for anything that made it seem I was being unappreciative or just looking for what I thought I wanted to hear, because this was not the intent.

Hope you all understand where I am coming from.

Eric

You asked an opinion and I answered. As I said in my posts "it's your rig, but.." You obviously didn't want to hear that.
As the posts in your other threads pointed out "it looks like you're hiding rust" just as I said.
Whatever kid, it's your truck.

I'm not here to be popular, just to help other like minded folks. Sorry you couldn't see that.

I appreciate your advice. I really really do. Making enemies is the last thing i want to do, but it doesn't look like i'm doing a very good job.

I'm sorry it seems that I disregarded your advice. I understand a lot of the posts agree with you. Phil, you've helped me a lot with my truck already and I'd hate to start anything bad.

Alright Phil,

I reread this whole thread and last night i was a bit caught up in disappointment that diamonplate would result in something bad that I must have missed some of the things you said, as you pointed out.

Once again, I'm sorry, I've tried to express my apologies for starting the other thread and such, but idk how much good it's doing.

This thread has taken a turn for the serious....its harshing my buzz.

Im surprised its news to you that Im kinda a dick....:grinpimp:

And dont worry about Phil he is just upset that he may not be the resident newbie anymore.

That should fire up Phil pretty good

You need to roll with the punches and when you ask a question you cant get offended if you dont agree with some with of the responses, or the tone of those responses.

I suggest you ask your next question about diamond plate or "who runs the biggest tire" here... General 4x4 Discussion - Pirate4x4.Com Bulletin Board they are much more tolerable people. :princess:

BTW, my opinion may not be the overwhelming majority yet, but its the ONLY correct opinion in my opinion.

If you actually read the other thread it is overwhelmingly "you can do what you want, but..." which is pretty much what everybody here said.

whatever. I deal with enough of this s*** at work.

Usually it starts with "I just found this 86 IROC Camaro, do you think I should buy it" and ends with me having to work on another piece of s*** I told the kid not to buy if his life depended on it.

Probably why I was a bit mean in the other thread. Or it could be John dickishness is rubbing off.

wait, that doesn't sound right.

I'm not upset with this at all. I'm pretty much :meh: about it. I don't get bent on internet arguments. Hell I've been on the internet since Al Gore invented it.

I'm still the noob in LC land and we all have gone through that process. That happens no matter what forum you go to. Pirate, Blew Room, F150World, Galaxie Forums, it doesn't matter. If it wasn't for the little search box, I'd be a bigger pain in the arse than I already am. It all comes with time and learning this forums' etiquette. I only want to pass the few things I learned while in here and if it helps somebody else then I'm quite cool with that. If not, oh well. I tried.

Enough out of you Darryl before I tell the Sheriff where you're hiding. :flipoff2:

alright well its just that this forum is my main/only source of LC info and i respect a lot of the people on here and obviously i do get bent on internet arguents lol cuz i profusely apologized.

alright so once again, sorry if i offended anyone, can we all forget about it and not bring up this or other threads where i made an *** of myself? or for that matter, bringing it to other threads...cough gumby...
