Steel Balls in Crankshaft?

Just pulled the crankshaft in my 97 1FZFE and I see a couple of steel balls in the crankshaft itself. They must have some function with oil flow, but what?

How do they get those put in place and do they need to be cleaned and/or replaced?

I just wanted to see the location of those balls. We use to use "Mallory Metal" in the crankshaft throws to balance the crankshaft, so i wanted to see if what you were talking about was something along those lines.
