That one time I thought I was a gonner when that boulder pushed me toward the edge, yeah, I got a little nervous. The coffee at my local shop never tasted so good, and the cafe girls never looked better than they did today.

What an experience guys. Thanks for the help, the coaching, the steaks, beer, and all-around great time. Have lots of shots for Dan and John. A couple are definitely worth submitting to Toyota Trails, or anyone else we can think of.

I'm working on the write up tonight, and willl have a web site link to everything up by Wednesday. I'll try to get some posted here too. Just much easier for me to use my site where I can run a slideshow too.

Thanks again for a crazy awesome weekend.

Hey, Ive had that sensation before....
PUCKER FACTOR!!!!

Glad all went well, and you had a good time and came out unscathed (reasonably).
Did you decide on any mods to your rig after that?
Have you ever wheeled it before?
its an FJ cruiser, correct?

Cant wait for the write up and pics!

Keith (errrr. ummm....Chicago Keith that is)

Yes, it's an FJC. Wheelin' trips this year so far include Jumbo Grade, Oregon Dunes, and now Steamshovel. Looking at going to Portland end of September for a joint FJC trail team/Cascade Cruisers event. Supposed to be some off-road 101 training (which I need) and opportunity to win a FJC-specific Metal-Tech front bumper on that trip.

Steamshovel helped me figure out what mods I want, or better yet, need. Probably shouldn't do something like Steamshovel trail again until I get better designed sliders, and perhaps a lift. The slider set that came with the rig takes away some clearance and doesn't so much slide as catch rocks. That said, they did their job and protected the body. Passenger side slider is done, though.

Would like to get some skid plating and of course A/T tires too. Anyone know of a Sugar Mama out there?

As for the photos … probably some of the best I've ever shot (how's that for hype building?)

Keith (um, how about Tahoe Keith)

Yea Dan would be great have some great pics of Keiths new Fj flexed and tires in the air hehe will email them to you Thanks

Just finished my write up. Even mention the two wheels thing. Excerpt below with humor intended, though at my expense:

I suspect Dan and John wanted me to stop more for the photo op than to keep me from teetering. Yes, I’m the newbie on two wheels. That should be on the Internet any minute.

Sorry everyone. probably won't be until sometime Wednesday until the slide show is up. I'll post the URL as soon as it's done.

Again though, some of the best photos ever (hype machine at work)

Its amazing how ONE TRAIL can change your life, and your financial future!:D
Its good to hear that the slider held up when they were called upon, even if it was their only shot to do so!
I see that Allpro off road is hitting the FJC aftermarket world pretty hard!
4wheel parts has some great package deals on rims and tires if you CALL them and inquire...
I got my 35 BFG MT's from them with my black steels, mounted, balanced with caps and lugs, shipped and dropped in my garage for 996.00

Can ya bring the slider to the next meeting!? Id like to see it!

I cant wait to see the pics!

TAP, TAP, TAP!!!!!

Here's the link to my web site with a slide show for easier photo viewing

http://www.tahoe-world.com/content/view/10177/78/

Should be able to make the next meeting with slider still attached. I believe the design is called "The Predator." They came with the rig when I bought it. They look different with the two steps added on, but recent experience proves they're not practical for the trail.

Just got through browsing the slide show and write-up. Excellent, both the pictures and the write-up written from your perspective, just excellent.
The pucker factor, I think goes hand in hand with the adrenaline factor.
Sure looks like a great trail.

Yeah!
Some of those pics NEED TO BE in Toyota Trails!
Or, National Geographic for that matter!

That one of the group coming up to the stam shovel...
Gives me chills it looks so cool!

Toyota Trails is always looking for stories.

Toyota Trails is always looking for stories.

I have to call and see if there's any leeway in their copyright policy. Toyota Trails maintains copyright over all submitted content, just like my company does, especially on the work I do for them. It's common practice so publishing companies can protect themselves against future lawsuits in case a writer or a photographer sues you down the road if you use their work for promotional purposes (making money off the work without giving proper compensation).

Hopefully a phone call could iron some of those issues out. Would be great to give the club that kind of exposure.

It was mentioned the Steamshovel feature had National Geographic quality images. Thanks, that's a compliment I'll take any day. But getting images into that magazine goes above and beyond the potential issue with Toyota Trails. Just try entering one of their photo contests. I'd need signed releases from Dan, John, Shaun, not just for their likenesses, but also for their property, which also means probably the State of Nevada or BLM for any photos of the trail, etc.

I haven't entered any National Geographic contests. Too damn difficult.

And then, I'm not sure I'd want to put myself out there to be scrutinized by the photo editng team. It'd make me feel like I was back in high school learning photo 101 again.

What if you used different pictures and text?
I know from the BOD meetings that sometimes it's hard to get enough good content for TT.
