Hello everyone, I've been searching all over for the past couple days to try and make sense of all the various bits of information on this site and others but I'm struggling.

My 1hd-t 93 80 series will not start unless I put a battery booster on the driver side (left whilst looking towards the front of the car as its a UK spec) This leads me to suspect that there is somthing preventing the other battery being used when starting.

I don't believe the issue is the starter as it would not start at all if this was the case
I have tested both batteries and they are both good
I have replaced the fusible link on ther right hand side battery (passenger side) as I thought it may have been this.

Could anyone point me in the direction of a couple bits of information
How to test the voltage converter thing (the cylinder behind the passenger side battery)
How to test any relays involved in the process

How to identify which one of the FSM's in the resources area is applicable to me as there are quite a few.

Aplologies if I've overlooked places where the above is answered.

First, this may be better answered through the diesel section as most here are gassers. I looked in the Resources and there wasn't a specific listing for a 1HD-t 93 80 series but there was a listing for the engine to include EWD, hope this helps. https://forum.ih8mud.com/resources/1pz-1hz-1hd-t-engine-repair-manual.144/

Without knowing exacts, here is what you could do:
I would say you need to identify which is your main battery and which is the auxiliary.
Test each battery out of the truck or at least removed from the system and ensure they are healthy (12.6v)
Ensure alternator is charging both batteries when the truck is running.
Not sure how to test the isolator...

Good luck with the repair.

The engine repair guide has the testing sequence for the voltage control thing so that's 1 bit sorted already, thank you.

Check the negative wires that go to the engine block and body ground. I would recommend unscrewing them, cleaning the contact surface, and reinstalling them.
