I’m about buttoned back together and will finish up in the morning. One of the joys of winter time outdoor repairs - at least it hit 50 today, and was clear. A good amount of the ice shell that had covered things is now gone.
After pulling the starter and preparing the IM/block for new gaskets, I certainly see how this could be terrible for the engine if someone wasn’t super careful. I made sure to block everything off and vacuum anything I could. Hindsight is 20/20 - I’ll be cleaning the bejesus out of my engine bay after this, and hopefully never have to take the IM off again while I own the truck…
