I want to order this StainlessTrays battery tray, but I'm not sure which one to order.
(Available options are: STANDARD, OPTIMA 34, OPTIMA 31T, Sears Die-Hard Platinum 65 or 34 or 31, Odyssey PC1500/DT 34/78)

I basically decided, that for my modest AUX usage (LED lights, camping stuff, winch), I'm going to save a few bucks and go
with a Costco Interstate battery.

I'm debating between a group size 65, fitment code 4, automotive battery that is 12in x 7.5in x 7.5in and reserve (RC) of 150.

Or a deep-cycle marine battery that is group size 27DC, fitment code 14. Size 13in x 7in x 9.5in.
Reserve (RC) is 160.

With the FJ60/62 tray, which hold down cable would work with each battery based on these measurements? Would a standard
work for the marine and the diehard platinum 65 hold down work for the automotive battery?

Has anyone had any difficulties with the installation of Costco Interstate Marine Deep-Cycle Battery with these StainlessTrays.com
battery trays and Standard Hold-Down? THANK YOU

Also, just to confirm. I'm putting my 2nd battery in front driver side, where the silencer was removed. I need to relocate the radiator recovery tank. The bracket hold-down sold by StainlessTrays.com says it won't fit with the 3E engine. I do have a 3E, 1990 FJ62, smogged in California, so if that bracket won't work, where have people placed their recovery tank? I'm thinking up and passenger side, by the washer fluid tank, or possibly buying a smaller Dorman aftermarket washer fluid tank and radiator recovery tank from Amazon, to make it all fit nicely.

As always, THANK YOU!!!

Here are some pics and specs.

Your best bet is to contact Stainlesstrays.com..... I was running Optimaless, but switched to Odyssey's a while back. A quick email to the manufacturer got me the right hold down clamps.......

Easy peasy....

Yeah.. that was my second move.. after searching MUD. I got back prompt replies from Noel, and the company was great. But more or less said that their hold-downs are made for exact specs for the batteries listed.

I'm just wondering if anyone has had success with these StainlessTrays.com trays and batteries that are not the ones listed. Thanks.

ps... if it really is that much of a specific issue, then I can get a much cheaper tray on Jegs or Summit, that claim to be "Universal",
but I like the reviews and that StainlessTrays seems to support (pun, ha!) Land Cruiser community.

The BCI Group Size is a dimension. All car batteries will fall under one of those sizes. It's a standard designed to prevent there from being 25 zillion battery sizes.

For example:
The dimensions of a BCI Group Size 27 Exide = Trojan = Interstate etc.

A Group Size 27 starting battery has the same dimensions as a Group Size 27 Deep Cycle one.

I have an Interstate group 27 deep cycle on the stainless steel tray with standard hold down. Fits perfectly. It's not the Costco one but if it's a group 27 fitment should be the same. The stainless steel overflow relocation bracket will work on the 62 if you unbolt the emissions valve thingy on the fender and move it slightly. The hoses that attach to it are firm enough to keep it from moving much. I zip tied mine just to be safe.

These trays are it. The best. Way better than OEM. Perfect fit, perfect function. It will be the best part of your Land Cruiser. At the end of time, when my 40 is nothing but a pile of rust, the Stainless Tray will still be perfect. Really, they are that nice.

I have them in 3 trucks. I always get "standard" size which fits group 27 which are common and about the biggest battery that will fit.

You can always order other hardware to fit different batteries in your tray, but it's hard to go wrong with group 27.

I can't say enough good things about these trays. If you are even remotely considering one, get one now.

I've got two in mine and they are 15 years old. One quick scrub with a scotch-brite and they still look brand new.

Worth every penny and great responsive customer service when I needed new/different hold downs.

Reservoir relocator works like a charm.

Do you have any pics of how you set-up this relocation bracket? No rush.. but THANKS!

Also, any issues with a liquid battery, like the Costco/Interstate Marine Deep Cycle? Autozone also has a BIG platinum AGM battery that has some nice specs.

I haven't had any problems with the battery yet. I have only had it in there for a few months though. I'll see if I can figure out how to post some pictures tomorrow.

100_6410.webp 100_6406.webp 100_6405.webp 100_6409.webp 100_6411.webp Ok here are some pics. The first two show the battery with the standard hold down and the overflow bottle mounted on the ss relocation bracket. The third pic is the valve ( vsv i believe) that i unbolted from the fender and pushed toward the firewall to allow the overflow bottle to fit. The fourth pic is the bracket that attached the vsv to the fender (this was removed). The vsv hose just sits there pressed up against the overflow bottle. You could zip tie the vsv back to the fender if you wanted to but its not going anywhere. The open port on the vsv is for the hose that leads to the silencer. This was removed to make room for the second battery. The last pic is the rest of the system. I used 2ga welding cable and covered it with heat shield tubing where it passes in front of the radiator. The battery in the stock location is an interstate megatron starting battery. Hope this helps.

man, that looks like a perfect fit. Thanks for including the pic of the ASV. I already took the silencer off that ASV.
Did you re-use the OEM overflow bottle bracket, and just somehow rig it to the hold-down? Or did you buy the
special hold-down with recovery bracket from stainlesstrays.com

I only ask to double-check... on the website info, they say it won't fit with stock hold-downs or the 3F engines.
Mine is a 1990 FJ62, so it has the EFI 3F engine, right? From your pics, I think I can make it work. As a back-up,
I bought a smaller aftermarket Dorman recovery bottle and washer fluid bottle. Both will fit in upper passenger
corner of the engine compartment. I just don't want to run a line from my radiator cap all the way up there.
I like your install.. looks clean. Thanks for posting those pics.

Sorry, I had forgotten about this thread. I used the special overflow bracket from stainless steel. I am not sure if it would fit the original hold down but it fits the stainless steel hold down for the original sized battery. I think they only say it doesn'the fit the 62 because the emissions stuff is in the way.

15 years on mine. And they make both right and left side units. Makes it nice for adding a secondary battery.

That looks awesome but I quick word of warning, make sure you use a rubber or fibre matting where the steel touches the body to prevent sacrificial corrosion. That and some copper anti seize or similar for the steel nut/stainless bolt unions.

Damn, wish I'd read this about half an hour ago. Oh well, when I redo it tomorrow morning, I'll at least know what I'm doing.
