Squeaking under 20 MPH

Howdy, fellow Landy Lovers.

I have a 1993 with 340K miles on it. The other day, I've heard a recurring squeaking noise when I start driving. I'd imagine it's within the wheels as the noise accelerates the truck does. But then it disappears when I hit 30 MPH. I thought it might be my brakes, but I had them checked in July and they were at 80%. I'm thinking there might be some dirt or dust in the rotors.

I'm leaving for a trip to the mountains next week and don't really have the funds or time to take my baby into the shop. So, any ideas or input from y'all would be greatly appreciated.

I’d jack up the front corner one at a time and check the bearings that’s free and easy. You know who they usually check brakes… not the brightest of the crew, one step above lube tech. Working on old yotas is fun, dip your toe in.

Yes, I don't have the knowledge to truly turn wrenches and fix certain things on my Landy, but I'm learning and enjoying keeping my baby up and running strong.

If you have limited experience "turning wrenches" let's keep i to the simple items.

When you jack the truck like @MissahPapaJ suggested. You will be looking for things out of place (e.g., loose/missing/worn/broken items). As for the wheels you can place your hands at 12 and 6 and see if there is any movement; then place at 9 and 3 and look for movement. Report what you find!

Slowly turn your wheels by hand and listen for and noise (grinding/binding) and report back this info.

Checking the brakes is easy and only requires you to remove the wheels (this will make the check easy). Look at your rotors and report (pictures are great) if there are excessive grooves. Check your inner and outer pads for thickness - you won't be getting an exact measurement but just ensure there is about 2-3 mm minimum of pad (anything lower than that and I would suggest a brake job is in your near future). I wouldn't stress if they are low, do your planned trip but just know they need to be done.

If you do not find the squeak in the wheels then you have some other areas to check but we can cover that after you do the above.
