Hi MUD,
Our 2011 has developed a squeak coming from he passenger side of the dash. It sounds like the squeak that styrofoam makes when it rubs together. I have tried to find it on the exterior of the dash with no luck. Not a trim part.
Truck has 33,000 so I'd like to get it fixed before the warranty expires. It is really annoying and gets worse as the truck warms up. THOUGHTS?
THANKS,
Anthony

Squeaks and rattles can be very deceptive - you think they are coming from one place only to find out its actually coming from the other side of the car. Clean out the glove box and and other storage bins and have someone drive you around as you hunt and peck for it. Check things like the door panels, glove box, sun visors, and the rear-view mirror (especially the trim piece that runs down the windscreen).

If you can't track it down that way, take it to the dealer; that's what the warranty is for.

45,000 miles and it still squeaks BUT only when it's really cold outside. Teens or colder. Am I the only one?

I dont think warranty covers squeaks. They might tell you they looked at it, but probably all you'll end up with is no car for a day or two and a free car wash.

I have a light rattle with sunroof open and the infamous rear headrest noise. 3K miles, 2014.

Couldn't care less about them, though. I do all that I can to keep my LC out of the prying hands of strangers including Toyota techs. They don't care as much as you do and naturally so.

I complained very early in the life of the vehicle and continued to do so. It's documented. Of course when I would ask them to look at it during a service, "sorry sir, we don't hear it."

Check out this video. This would drive anyone insane. This is what I'm going to show them at my next visit with my friendly dealer, they hate me.

Wow that is bad I hate squeaks and rattles... The only way is to take it all apart and find the trouble, fix it! I usually use some foam tape from home depot around whatever is causing the noise. Dealer won't mess with it. mine doesn't squeak at all that is loud. My little niece spilled coke on the side of my door... I had the whole door taken apart to clean it all out so it wouldn't dry and squeak, my wife came out and was like holy cow the car is in pieces " yes but will be squeak free" lol

Found it and fixed it. It was a the rubber trim that surrounds the windsheild. I SWORE it was in or under the dash. a little squirt of graphite spray under the trim and the squeak is gone. This was after tearing out as much of the passenger side dash component as possible and freaking out the squeak was still there.

Cleaned it up and no more squeak. 1.5 years to figure it out and NO HELP from toyota dealer even under warranty.

Thanks for updating with the solution. I have a 2013 with a lot of miles, but haven't had this kind of squeak yet.

Way to be vigilant. I'm about done with my current dealer as well -- they take every available path to avoid any real effort to help.

Thanks, Mine is rattling at 75 mph plus speeds and it was driving me nuts this weekend... I thought it was this piece, but this confirms my suspicions Thanks for the update arich

Rando, let me know if you get yours fixed too. I only notice mine at 70 mph and higher.

Arich, where did you apply the graphite? All along the trim?

Just rubbed the powder under the moldings and let it work its way in. worked like a charm. The video of me driving is exactly what it sounded like. Toyota couldn't hear it! It was also weather related. The colder the worse

Hey A, What brand did you use? I’m having this issue as well. Before I go nuts going under the dash I’m going to try this. Seems to only happen around 70mph. It could also be this piece. I pushed it down and In and it was quiet for a little bit.

@Sinister sending you a PM to call me

Going back to this thread I finally got a video with good sound for a noise that drives me nuts. Only happens when vehicle rocks left and right. Crawling under the vehicle it sounds like it’s coming from this general area but again a bit hard to tell. When in the vehicle sounds like it is coming from front left dash, very deceiving. The very end the sound gets low but it sounds like a ball bearing or something vibrating getting back into place.

also the below battery is only about six months old is that kind of corrosion normal or something that should concern me re the alternator or anything else?
