I was working on the truck tonight, and got 3 lug nuts into removing a wheel when my spline drive nut adapter broke. Discount tire gave me this tool with the lug nuts they insisted on installing with my new wheels. This is the first time I have used this tool at all. I was using the adapter with my 4 way lug wrench, not an impact. Needless to say, I am nervous about relying on this tool out on the trail.

Does anyone else run this type of lug nut or have any experience with this type of tool (breaking OR lasting a long time)?

I had those on the 4runner for years, never broke my key. Usually that just happens when you put an impact on them, which you're not supposed to do. I had a friend break his and we figured out that a piece of 3/4 EMT electrical conduit fit right over the outside of that, we slipped it over the outside and welded it up, basically adding another layer on top of the outside. Since the EMT was thin walled, it still fit inside his lug holes. Go on Ebay and type in "1921SD-key"

Also, be very careful of how tight you get your lug nuts. I found out a long time ago that most tire shops are putting way too much torque on them, I was guilty of it too. If you check your owners manual, or even a Haynes manual, metric 12 threads and 1/2 inch threads only require about 65 foot pounds of torque. That's not much torque. More than that and you'll start distorting your acorn seats and stretching your lug nuts, not to mention breaking your lug keys.
