How are your front and rear speakers mounted? My Cruiser came with aftermarket speakers. I replaced them with the popular Polk shallow mount speakers. After two of those died I replaced them with some truly lovely Infinity speakers. However every speaker I've had has mounted on the door card. If I remember correctly, the OE speaker mounted on the door and the door card just covered it.

I would love to have my aftermarket speakers mount this way but due to the aftermarket speaker grill design, that would be impossible. I've got a 3D printer and may just make my own grills but I wanted to hear from others.

Mounting the speakers to the doors, not the card, allows for a rigid mount. I can set the speaker back further until it contacts the window channel. Removing the door card will be much easier.

BTW, I've installed 6.5" speakers in the rear doors. I used a jigsaw to cut the hole larger but it made the structure a bit more floppy than I would like. Once I have a speaker grill solution, I plan to secure an aluminum plate to the door to make the speaker mount more rigid.

All this sounds familiar to me. I mounted the Infinity spkrs in the front doors by drilling new holes through the speaker and door steel to bolt them securely in place.

Are your speakers attached to the cards or just the door steel?

If you don't get a satisfactory answer in the mean time, I've got to remove my drivers door card probably tomorrow. I'll grab a couple pics.

Directly to the door steel IIRC. Can't get a pick right now though. Waiting on partsouq before I can bring it inside.

Sorry, I've got my answer. My speakers are mounted to the door card and the door steel. I don't like it. I've pulled off my door cards at least two dozen times and it always has to start with removing the speakers first. I would rather have the speakers mounted to just the door steel with just a speaker grill mounted on the door card.

Well, that sucks. It doesn't change much for me though: I've still gotta pull the door card tomorrow (which also sucks).

I think you're probably on the right track though: printing a custom grill to fit the door card and directly mounting the speaker into the door itself. You'd probably need a fairly shallow speaker to avoid it hanging up, but that's roughly how the stockers speakers work.
