I always take the spare with me. I have it secured in RFID blocker pouch. Now, where is the best place to "hide" it?

My system.... 2nd key in RFID pouch.. inside. Then had a 3rd mechanical key made which is in a waterproof magnetic box..... In undisclosed location of course..
Had to do something! Needed some kind of option if the key fob gets lost out in the boonies..

what the heck is RFID and how does the mechanical key start the car?

I think the mechanical key will get you INTO the truck.

Radio-Frequency IDentification uses electromagnetic fields to automatically identify and track tags attached to objects. An RFID tag consists of a tiny radio transponder; a radio receiver and transmitter. When triggered by an electromagnetic interrogation pulse from a nearby RFID reader device, the tag transmits digital data, usually an identifying inventory number, back to the reader. *wikipedia

Your card/fob to enter your parking garage, elevator, gated community all use RFID. It can be inbeded or a sticker. That sticker in the old CD jewel box at Tower Records was RFID theft device.

The blocker the OP was discussing acts like a Faraday cage blocking the car or someone else from recognizing the fob inside the vehicle.

The physical key cannot start the truck but it does get you in.
