I am in talks with my local shop to get SpiderTrax spacers put on my 200. They are saying that they would also need to do a body mount mod as well. I was just wondering if this is common place when installing spacers or not? The procedure is cutting a section out of the body mount and then welding a plate back in apparently. Any information would be greatly appreciated. TIA

That makes very little sense. Unless you're also trying to get rid of rubbing, but even then it's not usually the body mount that rubs on these trucks. The body mount chop is a common mod on other Toyota's though. You can put the spacers on in your driveway.

What offset are you at wheels + spacer. What width and diameter tires? Adjustable UCA’s?

-But I know enough to caution & say that what you’ve posted is not enough information to receive fully informed advice.

2nd:
-It matters WHO is telling you to do that. For example...if BudBuilt, Slee or Cruiser Outfitters is telling you (SPECIALISTS in Land Cruisers)...that’s one thing...but from a local shop we know nothing about...it sounds reeeeeally iffy.

The only 2 reasons I can think of for someone telling you to chop your frame to add 1.25” might be:
1) You have after-market wheels that are already creating to much sweep in the wheel arc...

or...

2) You are mounting tires that are so wide (or tall...or both)...that they rub on the frame.

OK...there are other scenarios. But the reason given of spidertrax spacers just sound off.

A body chop can be either a crazy-badass plan you have fully investigated...or a major goof.

My suggestion would be to pause...and post more information and photos before hacking into your frame or other extreme measures.

By the way... There are smaller spacers, too, such as 0.75” spacers from Bora...so spidertrax 1.25” are just one option.

But anyway...
...Post up your main goal you are hoping to accomplish here...maybe photos...and at the very least—more factors (specific wheels, specific tire size/model. There are folks here ready to help if they have the info.

thank you all for reaching out and yes I am sorry let me a give a little more information...

this past June I took my 2016 LC200 to a local off-road shop in town(Southern Off-road). They are an accredited off-road shop that does builds on just about anything. I got them to install some OME BP-51 coilovers/bypass on my 200 as well as SPC UCA’s as well. I am assuming that theses UCA’s are adjustable but i am not sure. I also had them install 34” Nitto Ridge Grapplers as well.

I am assuming that I am one of the few 200s they have done. The most notable one that I know they have built out was a 2015 LC200 that they did for another guy in town. I modeled a lot of my build after his. The main difference was he had 35” Nitto RGs installed while I had 34”. He recently had spacers installed(Spidertrax) and the off-road shop mentioned they did a body mount modification for him as well. (Forgot to mention, I am running the standard factory wheels that come with the car.)

fast forward to today.. I am hoping to get spacers installed because I don’t like my tires being so tucked in my wheel wells. I don’t experience rubbing really at all, the only time I do is when my steering wheel is at full lock but other than that none. My contact at the shop says that when installing the spacers the body mount mod is usually needed too because, “More tire clearance. When you add the spacers you increase the scrub radius so you would need the extra room at the body mount to clear the tires” and “Yes. In most cases pushing the wheel and tire assembly outward will require more tire clearance.” (His exact words).

I trust these guys and know they wouldn’t be doing anything to screw me over since they are a very well respected shop around town. I just want to make sure that this is actually needed. I am very green when it comes to all of this stuff so I just want to make sure I am doing the right thing for my rig. I am attaching a link that my guy sent me that shows the body mount mod. I can’t really discern what is going on but hopefully some of y’all can! Again thank y’all for everything!

I've had the 295/70R18 Nittos on my 100 and they're a big tire. Not sure if you'll get rubbing on the 200 or not. I had to bend over the pinch weld on the 100 but it has more space without the KDSS.

The spacers will give a better stance and give clearance from the UCA. Not sure if that would relieve (or make worse) the clearance. Since you already have the tires mounted you should be able to visualize what effect a 1.25" spacer would have at full lock.

I, like many here run 34" tires on rock warriors (+50 offset wheels) and have spacers installed, with zero need for any body mount chop.
I have the spidertrax 1.25" spacers. So, overall offset for me is 18.25mm.

Toyota body mount mod

I am running 285/75/17 Ridge Grapplers (roughly 34”...with BP-51, SPC UCAs, and Spidertrax 1.25” spacers.
No rub..
No body chop.

You say they cut for the guy running 35”s.
Ya, 35’s that are 12.5” wide are almost surely going to run at some point when fully articulated...but not badly.

I ran 35x12.5x17 Ridge Grapplers for two years.
No body chop.

You still have not told us exact tire you are running.
Are they 285/75/17 RGs? If so...then they are narrower and shorter.

I have zero rubbing on mine.

Please indicate what width your friend’s 35’s were and what your width is.

I highly doubt you need a chop to run your 34’s rub-free.

sorry.. I am running LT285/70/R18’s... I personally do not know the guy but know that he is also running OME wheels so I think he is running a LT285/75/R18’s

OK. That't a 34x11.5.
No reason you should have to chop to run those with 1.25" spidertrax.
Chop if you want to chop, but if they tell you you must? Don't believe it.

Fitment ease with that 34 compared to your friends 35 is night and day...and the reason I dumped my 35's. They can also adjust your tire slightly forward in the well during alignment to help with that inner rear metal.

Wanted to say thank you to everyone who helped me with this process! Spacers went on yesterday, and apparently outside of a faint rub when in reverse at full lock, no issues! Something did pop up that I did not see coming...

My TPMS monitoring system on my dash no longer works now. Was working fine before we took it in and we had them put some airs in the tires along with the spacers and rotation, and all of sudden I no longer received readings. Is this related to the spacers being put on or this separate issue? Thanks guys and happy Friday!

There's no reason that the spacers should have affected your TPMS. That is truly curious. Is that just at start-up, or do you never get readings?

I usually see that screen when I first start it up but 2 min or so into driving it gives readings. Drove all the way to work this morning and still no readings by the time I arrived.

Was the TPMS system reset after the tires were rotated?

There could be possibility of that but I am not 100% sure. I just know they put air in the tires (specifically the spare since the tire pressure light was on because it was low). So they could have

If the tires were rotated when they put the spacers on the TPMS system would need to be re-initialized. I think you just need to do that all will be good again.

ok great. What would the steps to re-initialize the TPMS system?
