Looks like its good to go. I'm getting around 14 volts when running which is pretty good considering the trip it has to take. I'll probably need to rewire it all sometime.
I took the core in for exchange and they were asking why it was leaking oil. I had to explain to them that the alternator has an oil passage on the housing that supplies oil to the vacuum pump. They were pretty amazed.
So it looks like you guys have to put up with my old beater for another year's trip!

That solar trickle charger on Clifford works GREAT!!! Clifford's battery probably doesn't take the abuse that your battery does but I'm just sayin'....
Well, I have a solar trick charger on it now and it does help fight the typical small drains that you get from stereos, etc. I could always bring an extra battery or even two. I honestly believe that I drove around for 3 days without the alt doing anything because I noticed something weird with my stereo a few days before and was having trouble getting it to stay on. I also notice slower cranking. I must have a good red-top.
It looks like I will be driving the 4Runner down there. I will just have to keep an eye on the charging system and keep my drive shaft out of the rocks.
