Or rent a cabin near Silverton, Lake City or Ouray. Preferenced in that order. Most all the trails can be reached easily from all of them.

We are going to invade y'all like the Ohioians and Jersey Shore jerks are invading us.
......my sister lives there and it's ok to visit.paflytyer said:Who, in their right mind would go to Ohio or New Jersey? I've been to both and lived way too close to both (Pittsburgh and NYC) You'd have to drag me back kickin' and screamin'. I've also lived in Texas and South Carolina, some of the nicest people I've ever met come from the South or from Texas....... I'd go back to Texas anytime. SC......my sister lives there and it's ok to visit.
You guys from down South better be prepared to go back home and pack up your house to head west. Colorado can't be beat. Took this pic from the front seat of the 100 on a dirt road in Rocky Mountain National Park the other other day.

As far as the FJ Summit goes, I'm kind of on the fence. One one hand I think it would be a LOT of fun with awesome people/ raffle etc. On the other hand if I'm spending the money and making the trip I can't say I want to be on the Ouray trails with a hundred other trucks.
Last time I was out there with the LC the serenity of the trails without a ton of others was part of whats special about Ouray. This is also comming from a previous FJC owner.
That being said, the FJ summit is a event I have been wanting to attend for some time...
Anyways, just my take. I need to take a closer look at the dates and see what looks more promising.
+ 1 for camping on my end if this all works out....
JonHaris...we will bring you some Southern cooking, and you will be wanting us to come up regularly!

I'm with you on all points. I think the main, determinig factor on which one it winds up being would be whether or not we could get someone local to guide, give advice on camping locations, etc...<cough> Jonharis <cough>
Speaking for myself only, I think I would be more comfortable with the smaller group of trucks.
