Stay in the south where you belong people.

As far as tires go anything is fine. The talus slopes I Poughkeepsie are the only bad thing up there really. MTs and ATs all do great. MTs maybe a little better. Meh. If stock is what ya got, run em. Just have a spare and drive good.

Or rent a cabin near Silverton, Lake City or Ouray. Preferenced in that order. Most all the trails can be reached easily from all of them.

I dont mind pitching a tent with everyone else, just would appreciate a shower and head.

I'm up for anything as far as lodgings go. Tent, cabin, doesn't matter to me.

JonHaris...we will bring you some Southern cooking, and you will be wanting us to come up regularly!

Who, in their right mind would go to Ohio or New Jersey? I've been to both and lived way too close to both (Pittsburgh and NYC) You'd have to drag me back kickin' and screamin'. I've also lived in Texas and South Carolina, some of the nicest people I've ever met come from the South or from Texas....... I'd go back to Texas anytime. SC :meh:......my sister lives there and it's ok to visit.

You guys from down South better be prepared to go back home and pack up your house to head west. Colorado can't be beat. Took this pic from the front seat of the 100 on a dirt road in Rocky Mountain National Park the other other day.

Agree on all counts.

Have a buddy that moved from where I am to CO springs 2 years ago. He keeps sending me pics of rides he's taken (jeep unfortunately). Country is def unbeatable up there. Hence this thread...

Ive been snow skiing in Colorado. Breckenridge and... Arapahoe Basin, I think that's it. It was pretty, i guess. Everything was covered in snow.

Yeah, but WE get to scratch up our trucks on the overgrown trails!

So, the list so far, of those who have expressed at least some curiousity:

It's been almost 10 years ago since I been there, and that was with my Xterra! I am interested! For those who travel from So Cal, we can also spend a couple days at Moab on the way back. I am keeping my eye on this! Thanks for starting this thread!

As far as the FJ Summit goes, I'm kind of on the fence. On one hand I think it would be a LOT of fun with awesome people/ raffle etc. On the other hand if I'm spending the money and making the trip I can't say I want to be on the Ouray trails with a hundred other trucks.

Last time I was out there with the LC the serenity of the trails without a ton of others was part of whats special about Ouray. This is also comming from a previous FJC owner.

That being said, the FJ summit is a event I have been wanting to attend for some time...

Anyways, just my take. I need to take a closer look at the dates and see what looks more promising.

+ 1 for camping on my end if this all works out....

I'm with you on all points. I think the main, determinig factor on which one it winds up being would be whether or not we could get someone local to guide, give advice on camping locations, etc...<cough> Jonharis <cough> :)

Speaking for myself only, I think I would be more comfortable with the smaller group of trucks.

I kinda disagree with the serenity aspect of your post. In the vast majority of the open trails in the San Juans, "Serenity" is hard to find. I'm not saying it isn't there but I find that the standard routes are nearly always crowded. We had a mixed approach on the Summit. I really enjoyed the night life and all the evening events (raffle, dinner, vendor show etc) and in the day time we only actually attended one run. I lead the Alpine Loop and Spotted Blackbear. The other days, we just did our own thing and relaxed. It's an option at least.

OTOH: Going it on your own affords you the ability to stop when you want where you want and do everything at your pace. There is something to be said about that.

I hope you guys can all make it up here and weather you attend the FJ Summit or a certain smaller "event" or go your own, I'd like the opportunity to meet up with you in person and maybe run a trail or two.

I agree. Get to work on this Jon. We nominate you as our party planner.

I 2nd Jon....

Weather you go to the Summit or not, the Ouray area is not to be missed!

Sounds good to me also I will be watching.

can always get Athena to come out of hiding as she loves to wheel and can ensure you get through easily...

while i liked the FJ Summit...it was a little bit of a goat rope on some trails with people in a rush to get through them as leaders so they could go do something else THEY wanted to do....

A 100 only run would ensure available rooms....plenty of room on trails...or make it an ALL OTHERS SUMMIT....everyone EXCEPT FJCRUISERS! :) That way a few 40s, 45s, 6x's, 70s, 80s....can make it too.
