Hi. Long time lurker, first time poster here. I finally have some time to work on my 2003 lx470 that I bought from the original owner last year. It has 155k miles, runs and drives, but was parked when the ahc failed and sat for a few months. I towed it home and have been investigating the ahc in my spare time. Here is what I know -
the pump electric motor works when I close the relay.
I figured out techstream and found that it has codes 1762 for abnormal pressure, and there is code C1231 for steering angle sensor ( steering angle reads 0.0 no matter what I do with the wheel)

Would c1231 disable the AHC ?
Or do I have multiple problems to chase down ?

Wow, you found the secret special jelly reservoir, congratulations!
I assume someone poured brake fluid into the AHC reservoir to get it to that point?

The VGRS might just be flagged because the battery was disconnected, my VGRS light comes on whenever it's disconnected and turns itself back off after a short drive. I don't think that's connected to preventing the AHC from operating under test. I think once you get it all cleaned out you should wipe the codes and just try to get it to lift/lower in place. Don't forget to use extra height mode when flushing the AHC and keep a VERY close eye on the reservoir as it's really easy to run it dry when bleeding out and adjusting the heights.

give up on AHC is my advice.

AHC came in real handy for me in Moab a couple weeks ago. I put it in high countless times to keep my factory tupperware from getting scraped up. Then, get on the highway, throw it in sport and it will actually take a corner without dragging door handles . It worked exactly as Toyota intended.
There are use cases where conventional is better but set up properly AHC is very hard to beat. I didn’t want AHC when searching for my 100 but it has made me a convert.
