We have SOR covers in our 100 and 40. They’re great. The membership is definitely worth it if you decide to restore an older Cruiser and need discounts on parts. Plus customer service from SOR has been top notch in the 20 years or so that we’ve been buying from them.

Brown duck cloth by the yard.

Getting this color to match the brown interior trim was one of the reasons I went with SOR. The center console cover is sold separately. I may decide to order an extra to keep on hand if I need it. I rarely use the fold down arm rests.

One thing that I did not want to repeat with seat covers for the LX is to buy a color that clashes with the dark brown trim color. The dark oak trim in the 1999 Tacoma is the same dark brown trim tone in the LX. As you can see below, the standard Carhartt tan thread has too much yellow to blend with the brown tones in the interior. So I just live with it. I did Scotchgard the seats and they repel water and stains nicely. No complaints there.

The Carhartt duck cloth "precision fit" covers fit nice and tight. There is a 1/4 or 1/8 inch sheet of foam that is sewn or glued to the backside of the outer facing seats that give them a little extra padding for the precision fit. The only downside is you can see where it starts to wrinkle at the contact area on the driver seat bottom. I remember paying quite a bit extra to get the precision fit option.

The wear area is just above the seat reclining release handle. This area is currently the heavy wear area on LX leather seats and will the same on the new seat covers. From experience, I wanted this area of the new seat covers to be smooth.

Anything that protrudes from the fabric in this area will be the first to show signs of wear.

This purchase has been about learning from a past mistake.

Those look great. I got a sample and they seem ROUGH, which kind of turned me off of them.

The Carhartt duck cloth covers do feel exactly like their coats and clothing. Not exactly smooth. I know what you mean. An earlier poster in the thread mentioned washing the covers a couple of times to remedy the stiff feel. I might try that on the armrest part to see if I like it before going all out on the seats. Either way, I will end up spraying the seats with Scotchgard to give the fabric a little bit of protection.

Public service announcement: if it's a concern, don't forget to consider airbag compatibility.

For sure.. My 99 model does not have airbags.

This afternoon I received the SOR slip covers. Shiping was fast.

I just threw one of the rears on the seat to see how the brown color matches the other trim.

I can live with it. I will take a steamer to smooth out the seats after installation.

I want to wash up the seat belts before I install the covers.

Thanks for all the input about new covers. That informative video review (The Land Cruiser Project) must be way out of date. SOR Covers do include the armrests at this time and the price is now, of-course way above $200 per row.

Here is what I found.

Escape Gear has an installation video that gives you a feel for how the your installation will proceed and what it will end up looking like.

SOR doesn't have a slip-cover video but does have a video for the leather replacement covers which are not offered for the 100 series. Too Bad! Nice Covers.

Real Leather Replacement seat Liners (for like new OEM with hog rings etc.. typically remove the old seat cover first.)
Some can be had for the same price at the Tuff Duck Covers.

My buddy in the Ozarks. I need to kid him about it.

His work looks amazing. I'll have to visit him when my ship comes in!!! He's my kind of redneck!!!

I have bought a BUNCH of products from him this year. Of course, I've done business with BUNCH of our vendors.

The SOR covers that The Land Cruiser Project bought were purchased used and didn't include the armrests. SOR was unable/unwilling to sell just armrests to make a full set.

They must have had a change of heart. I'll take a closer look.

this may seem like some dumb questions but how comfortable are these covers? I really like my leather seats but they are getting to where they need to be redone. Do these seat covers itch? We live in Hawaii so driving with no shirt and shorts is year round for us. Are they cooler or hotter than normal leather? (Guessing a little cooler?)

Thank you
