77 FJ40. I had this toggle switch under my steering column. I traced the wire tonight and it goes to something I thought was a fuel filter, but then I looked at the wiring diagram and see there is a fuel cut out solenoid. Would this be it? Purpose? Mine is not wired with any power currently.
Thanks.

Interesting. I traced the wire from the toggle switch which lead me to the solenoid. I can see where this wire was spliced to the wire going into the solenoid. Thing is, whoever did this did away with whatever wire was powering the solenoid so that this is the only wire to it. And I had removed the switch the other day, thinking it went nowhere. The truck still starts and runs with no power to this solenoid.

Well this morning before driving it in to work I found were the solenoid wire should have been connected and did reconnect it. But I don't think the solenoid is actually working. Before connecting it I touched the wire to the positive of the battery and didn't hear any click or anything coming from the solenoid. Be surprised that it would fail open, cause how would it do anything?

They were hard to find for a while, someone could have cut the end of the needle off when it failed. There are posts about doing this when the solenoid goes bad, to make it open all the time.

Looking for the post about cutting off the end of the needle, can find it since the key words like cut off is also part of the part name. But from my quick reading is these rarely ever go bad, and usually a cleaning will get the needle moving freely again.

Thanks for searching for this. But that link is mainly about some solenoid on the carb. The solenoid I am talking about is down near the fuel pump on the passenger side of the engine. I guess it is a solenoid. I am just basing that guess on looking at the wiring diagram.

That solenoid on the carb is the fuel cutoff solenoid. I am not sure what you are talking about. The only thing electrical besides the battery, ignition coil/spark plugs and starter on the passenger side of the engine is the oil pump sending unit. There should be nothing near the fuel pump. Can you post pictures of what you're talking about?

X2--need pics--no elec stuff down there except the oil sending unit(other than the dizzy and starter)

Hmmm... Alarm with a timer so if you start car, you get about 20 feet before it shuts off. Thief trying to restart as I come up behind him. Just thinkin... ;)
Orig Owner and darn near 1/2 a million miles????---Wow!!
I do not think I would like to be the person who tried to take this one away!!
