The wife and I are planning a 2 week trip next spring. Most of which will be camping in a RTT.

So, it seems evryone under the sun suddenly is selling them.

Any recommendations in the $1500 range. We were going to go with the ARB Simpson III, but why when I can get an Ironman with the annex for much less.

Thanks in advance

The wife and I have had the large Camping Lab for approximately 2 years now and love it. We haven't had any issues with the tent, as long as you take care of it they'll last for a long time. We choose this tent because of price and the fact that we knew a few people that had them, and it left me more money for other camping "toys".

I picked up a Tepui Tent brand RTT several months ago and have been very happy with the purchase. They have some pretty good feedback/reviews on expedition portal. They are pretty similar to most brands on the market except they seem to have a few more models to choose from. Looks like they have a pretty good thanksgiving sale going on now too. You should check it out. www.TepuiTents.com.

I have the Simpson III. Really like it. The front slide bar for the entrance/annex bent a little and now gets jammed up/stuck once in awhile.

not in the 1500 range unless you can find new, but i've found my maggi to be far superior to the fold overs. mileage isn't affected, easier setup and tear down, more durable, can leave bedding inside when it's down.

i've heard people mention that you can rent them some places too. if you don't plan on using one for the long haul, you might look at rental.

x2 on what neclearlemon said. I have owned both a Maggi and one of the clamshell variants mentioned above. However, when all set-up, the clamshell is more spacious and comfy. Also, if you were running it on a trailer, some of those advantages of the Maggiolina won't be as apparent.

The annex is nice if you need something that large but one of those quick pop-up privacy rooms work well and are easy to set-up... plus, they can remain set-up if you have to leave camp.

Thanks for the replies. I may end up with the Ironman. The only bad thing I heard is they have crappy mattresses.

We have the ezeeawn;
My wife loves it cause the mattress kicks ass and it has plenty of room on the inside.
Its the 1800 series btw......
Im not too crazy about it cause I get to deploy it and its pretty easy to set up, specially when it is on the trailer... but when its raining...(down pours) I end up like a wet cat... I dont like that... yeah Im that picky...
Im looking at getting the Air Top..... or the Columbus (specially cause it deploys so damn fast).... but I'll be looking for a used one cause I sure cant afford a new one...

Also, for that kind of coin you really want a good mattress....... !!!

I think the only reasonable solution is to purchase a couple different RTT's, try them out and then sell the ones you didn't like to local members at a steep discount.

Hmm, that sounds like a great idea. Do you want to go in 1/2's on 4 tents?

When do want to swap those springs out?

I thought there was enough room to leave your bedding in place on just about all of the fold overs? The only review I had read that specifically mentioned you could not without difficulty was the Camping Labs with the 3" thick mattress. Is that not the case?

My sheets and blankets stay in the tent when folded. The pillows I have to pull out. Simpson III
