I've been waiting since February to hit some trails in the snow. Any good recommendations? I was thinking CK, Montana Mountain, or Perkinsville Road but I'd like to try a trail I haven't done.

Jerome, smiley rock.

That Smiley Rock looks like fun. Let me know if that turns into a ROTM.

Diamond Point just Northeast of Payson is a good, close day trip if you're planning for snow. My brother and I ran it a few years back, and hit both Scout Cave and the Fire Tower location. We planned to search for Herkemer Diamonds, but the snow became the memory from that trip. Scout Cave could be tough to get into and hard to find if you don't know the area and the snow is deep.

I'll see if I can dig up the link and post it here,

Don't just think of the back road when you think of CK. There are a number of trails up on the mountain that get pretty gnarly in the winter.

I tried 4 Peaks since I had never been on that trail. I struck out, and also found out it is a terribly boring trail. Absolutely no obstacles or technical spots and too rocky to really go fast in most areas.

Afterwards we headed to Payson to eat at El Rancho. After striking out in Payson we drove to Christopher Creek and finally found some dirt roads with snow.

If I didn't have to go back to work Tuesday I would have traveled up North and find some trails.

Try 4 Peaks in the winter - quite a bit scarier!

This was the day after the 2010 4 Peaks cleanup.
