Snorkel options?

Several vendors have the TJM snorkel in stock including TJM USA

I would suggest just calling TJM USA directly & ask to be sure.

ARB-SS88HPE this version is for the 5.7 and provides more airflow. this is the only option I personally would go with due to flow.... ARMAX for 5.7

If evidence of this this benefit exists, I have not seen it. I would love it to be true...as I have the ARMax version Safari...but I’ve never seem any proof of any benefit from flow on the 5.7 via any snorkel.

In Australia, Safari does make an ARMax *computer/tuner box* for the diesel...but...no such offering is there for the 5.7 petrol...and Safari makes no claims (that I know of) of increased power from the snorkel itself.

Not saying it’s impossible.
Just saying that if it is a thing...that would be news to me and a lot of others folks, including respected cruiser specialists.

Check valves... not sure how this would reliably work. Can't be a gravity check or the suction of the intake could open it under throttle modulation and run the risk of sucking in water, the exact opposite of what you want. OTOH, if it were a spring check the spring sizing would need to be a balance between opening under a water column yet not opening under suction or vibration. Probably the best option woudl be a manual valve or a 12V solenoid valve if reaching the manual valve was difficult. One could always run clear tubing out the bottom to a visible location along the fenderwell to serve as a sight glass. Just don't trap the liquid. And passing out of the filter housing would also require a bulkhed fitting, that itself would create a lip trapping some kind of puddle at the base.

Too bad there isn't a rubber nipple like on the cyclonic intake that came with the round Austrailian filter housings...

I bought this and it seems to work fine for draining excess water in the air box

Amazon product ASIN B07NTY936C
It allowed water to drip out, but you can’t blow back into it. I just drilled open the tiny drain hole, inserted, and sealed with RTV.

So is the TJM designed to work with the 5.7?? It’s seems weird that ARB finally releases an airbox for the 5.7 after over 10 years after the release..... how much MORE airflow is being allowed???

TJM is not designed to work with the 5.7 but the headache of making it work is pretty minimal.

I really dont know what ARB says about ARMAX.. but to me it looks like it is physically larger tube. which to me equates to less restricted flow.. Just my opinion. somebody would have to flow rate the different snorkels to find out if it makes any difference...
I have a TJM snorkel on my Excursion 7.3 and the quality is great but , I also allow air to come in from the regular intake through the grill because I dont want to restrict ANY air... AIR = POWER on any motor...
not saying a snorkel gives you HP, I'm just saying I want to keep what HP I have and NOT restrict it...

clear as MUD... guess I'm in the right place!

I like this one, but am worried it doesn't provide adequate airflow to the engine.

It's been discussed elsewhere that the volume of air in the 5.7l is limited by the intake manifold, and that even purposefully plugged air filters still didn't starve the engine. The diameter of these parts looks big enough to me.
As stated already, no one has made a flow test to measure the velocity of air thru any of the snorkels.
The multiple bends in snorkels (the one I installed has three 90s), are more likely to restrict flow than the tube sizes in my uninformed opinion.

@grinchy, by chance do you have a link on those discussions. I would really like to read those.

No, I didn’t bookmark it. It’s around here somewhere. I want to say in one of the supercharger threads but could be misrecollecting.

If you want to measure flow rate start with the same calculations that are used for HVAC.
