Hi All,
while I had the front end of the 40 on stands this evening, I wiggled the FLH wheel to check the bearings and noticed the tie rods rolling back and forth. The rotation went right across to the relay but didn't go onto the drag link.
When I say roll, I mean really roll down. The dust boots are shot but is this a TRE replacement also?

If there's play in the TREs then replace them. Vendors like myself sell the complete kits. If there's no play, then install some new boots and grease them.

i'm based in Western Australia so have ordered locally.

Got the new TRE's on the way.

Checked on just how loose they were and according to a few other posts, they are on their last legs.

At least they wont fall out with the castellated nut and cotter pins...

If the round head on the TRE head , or the crown, become worn enough, the TRE can separate, creating surplus entertainment when on the trail. John

Good call. Replaced mine and made a world of difference. Also may want to consider a center arm rebuild for $100 - the combo of those two got my steering acting like it just rolled off the assembly line.
