Ok, I had a local vendor put in the Trail-Gear 4.7 gearset in my tcase back in March and when I brought it home, I think everything was pretty "tight"

Since that point...things have started feeling sloppy, and wanted to get some thoughts from you guys.

By sloppy, I mean after the last trail ride, the shift pattern did not want to act the way I expected.

J is the normal pattern... with upper right as 4LOW, pull back to do neutral and then 4 HIGH

And then to the upper left should be 4 HIGH.

Now I am just "feeling around and upper left appears to be 4 HIGH (4wd light comes on, etc)

What I am thinking "could" be true is that the shift levers / the pin that holds them together may have been left out? If so, in theory I could slap on a twin shifter and be ok?

Right now 2wd HIGH appears to be pretty close to 4wd LOW... and somehow when I was on the trails a weekend back, swear I was in 2wd LOW!!! That is what leads me to think the pin may not be in there or possibly broken I guess.

Personally, I WANT a twin stick setup, not 100% sure I can do it though based on what I am reading.

85 Pickup, 22R with G52 tranny according to the plate on the firewall. I "think" that is the forward shift / but not sure if it is the one that you cannot twin stick?

The trail gear instructions / site says if the shifter is "combined" you cannot, but then says they do have forward shift ability does work.

Any and all help and suggestions are welcome!

When I was in 2LOW my rear was digging and slid me left into a tree, crunched up my side really good. I can fix that but it is irritating to not know if I am in 2low vs 4low.... or when driving 2 high vs 4 high???

hey i am not sure but in my 87 there was something broke in the shifter and some times i would have to pull it up and feel around to get it back into the shift forks. just thought you might see if this is your problem.

Yeah I think unbolting it and looking down in there will be the first step. How "hard" are the shift forks to move? In other words can I move them around with a screwdriver or anything to test and see if they are still linked, etc?

I read the post on Pirate about changing the fwd shift tcase (which appears to be what I have) so that one of the forks is the fwd shift and then other one, you install the shorter one and second stick in teh top mount plate area.
