Hi,

Bought a used 2005 J120 a year ago.

My wife is camping in it atm but has stumbled upon issues regarding the car alarm.

What does she need to do in order for it(the alarm) not to go off at night while sleeping?

She wants to lock the car while she's sleeping in it.

How to deactivate alarm/motion sensors etc?

Thanks in advance,

I sleep in mine all the time. I usually lock the doors with the key fob (from the inside). Then, unlock them in the morning with the key fob. The GX "thinks" you are outside of it, so I've never had that set off the alarm. I do, however, hang up the keys on the coat hook, I've rolled over on them in the middle of the night and accidently set off the alarm.

If moving/sleeping in it is setting off the alarm, it might be an aftermarket alarm system and not factory. The OEM alarm system for the US GX470s is only for unauthorized entry (door opening when the vehicle is locked). Our systems do not have any motion sensors, however it's certainly possible the European vehicles are different.

Ours has this "box" close to the rearview mirror. With a button on it. What's this do?

Sorry, I have a hard time explaining as I don't have access to the car atm.

Use the driver side door lock button to lock all the doors. This doesn’t trigger the alarm when you open the door.

Or lock each door manually by hand. This doesn’t trigger alarm.

I choose last method because I want to leave the rear barn door unlocked, so I can use my DIY get-out latch that installed on the rear barn door

Might be an aftermarket alarm. Can you post a picture?

Thank you!

I talked to Toyota shop and they were pretty persistent that "locking the car, even manually, would activate the alarm/movement sensors" - which to me seemed kind of ridiculous; being that someone obviously must be inside the car to lock it that way.

Will try your method,
