I meant that the VC is removed when you install the part time kit. Saving labor. Yes, it can be removed without using the part time kit, but since the VC acts like a limited slip diff for the center diff, once you removed it, you have essentially an open center diff which is as usefull as a open front or rear diff. So why then run in 4wd? Might as well run in 2wd and save the wear and tear on the front parts.
Yes, not everyone might like how the truck drive in 2WD but some do.
Gary, Kurt had a VC that got locked up and we also had a truck at the shop that it happened to. It is not common, but it has happened. Not sure if those are normal failures or a result of the car maybe being towed on a dolly or something like that.
