Well im going to look at a pig tonight ($300). The guy got it after Katrina and imidiatly washed it all down. The motor was locked up before the storm. Its supposed to be all there.(will post pics when I go see it.) I just built the engine in my 79 40 and was thinking about putting the whole running gear including the axles and P/S. Does this sound like a good idea? I really like the 55 (grew on me...kinda like mold) anyone see any major problems with this swap? Its been sitting for 3 years.

That is what was done to my FJ55(71) before I got it.

Nothing to big about it.

As for the complete part, check out all the rubber... if too bad, you might be in for a shock if you want to replace them:lol:
Tell me about it....replaced the rubber and window channels in my 40.

Is the P/S factory? If not, you'll have some work ahead of you.

What year is the pig?

Howdy! Watch out for the trash that could of built up in the rockers and bottom of the front fenders. Those spots are nasty traps for rust because they do not drain well. I suppose the rear quarters would be the same problem if the water was deep enough. Rusty floors under the floor mats is another area of concern. Now, for that price, you could probably part it out and make some good $$$ if some of it is to far gone for a restoration. John

well I figured to make this a year project..then if I dont use my running gear drop in a 350. my 40 was a rust bucket when I got it, no floors, part of the bed rusted out , both rear quarters gone and the engine shot. you can se it in my sig. Its just a run around towner. wanted to build this 55 up pretty decent.

Well...the pig was a dog! all the rockers rusted out drivers door and glass need replacing and passenger front door about 1/8 thick bondo. the frot was straight. Motor locked up but i knew that. no front seats, speedometer missing and about half the switches.the roof on the passenger side was ruted all the way through also.

WAITTTTTTTTttt.......it looks like the bumper is straight.

Well, me for 300.00 no wait, $150.00 I might buy it (might) for donor parts for another better pig. But then, I have seen people here do amazing things with less. :frown:

What year is it?

I'd say it's still worth 3 bills + in parts

Ron, mine looked worse..you did a great job on your 40........BTW...have a extra front seat........and the gauges and switches can be found here on mud; did you get a chance to look at the one on 216?; the roof seems to be in good shape with only surface rust last time I checked.....
