Any help or opinions would be appreciated:hhmm:
I found a 1990 extended cab short bed with a 2.4l fuel injected The owners:princess: drove it while low on oil. He thinks it blew a rod or something. His son also put a dent in the d/s fender and door. It has 200k miles,no rust, a topper and no radio. He wants $350.
I would like to look at it but I am currently in Iraq. I can send my brother to look at it.
I was wondering how big of a project this could be?:bang:
And do you think the engine is a total loss? Can it be rebuilt or just find a replacement?
I am looking for a daily driver so I dont have to feed the beast all the time. Should I just look for one in good running shape. There are not alot of toyotas where I live. All american made junk.

I agree you might even get it for less and you could possible find a good used motor for 500 to 1000 bucks then you're good to go!

No affiliation....

But I saw a Oregon Engine shop on Ebay selling Lifetime Warranty, Unlimited mileage 22re's for 1100.00.

Not too bad if you can get the truck for 350.00

By the way, if it has a white topper, I would love to buy it from you ( :

Thanks guys
My brother is going to look at it today. I really want an 4cyl extended cab. It will make those long pheasant hunts and fishing trips not so painful at the pump. If I buy it I'm sure Ill have lots of questions for you in June.

I guess no one has told you gas is now 1.26/gallon. I'd pay more money for a bigger truck....oh, wait, no I didn't!

Hey texx
Do you trust the oil man? ...I dont ?.. I could always use more 6 money? Plus I already have over 12k in mods planned for my 80. Cheap pickup is the way for me.

You snooze you lose.. Someone beat me to it.. more money for the 80 build..
Thanks for the advice
Ill find one when I get home

For one, if the engine was run out of oil, and this is confirmed. Then most likely the tranny is good. (Hiluxese for "the rest of the truck has NO problems")

Two, this truck, in case nobody has told you, is a STEAL!

The ex-cabs are an easy $1k more asking, then a regular cab. That's fine w/ me cause I love the reg cabs b/c of the turning radius. It should be fine for you cause that cab will help things out.

Here's how to value a truck: Take the total parts, and what their total worth is, and add that all up. Frame = $, Axles = $, Tires, body, bed, etc, etc...

And FYI, buddy. You're paying for the truck what that motor would cost as a CORE!

Get the truck. Put a motor in it. Stop thinking like a mindless american that, "It's old, and it's gonna break down all the time" and drive it forever (with proper PM of coarse). Unless you like payments?

And BTW, Ex cab is money in the bank if you ask me. They sell quicker and bring more when they do. Especially those with 4 cylinders in'em.

(everybody else doesn't mind driving up the cost ala internet, now it's my turn)

That's the american way. Cheap and now. Damn the consequences. Live for today and never worry about tomorrow.

Spoken like a true american...

Check my sig line...that was somewhat tongue in cheek :)

What up.... I think if it has no rust and is in good physical shape you should get it. One quick thing I would have your bro do is a compression test if the owner will let him. You can for sure get a tight motor for this from CAL-MINI for a "G". I think Three-fish even with a bunk motor is good, You can always use it for a core, and it might not be dead.

Take care
