check your power steering fluid also for the whiney groany.mine does that too on cold mornings when its a little low not related to the lunge though.

Remember to check your tranny fluid while the tranny is hot, as in after a spin, and also while it is running. That gives the most accurate measurement.

Aside: OMG I just noticed the dude in your avatar grabs his junk now! LOL!!

Um,

:o

More of a random scratch actually...........;)

I went and looked at a 62 awhile back with a tranny that was starting to slip. While it was just sitting there idling in P your could hear the torque converter whining. The whining would change as you rev the gas. I got under the truck and it was coming from the transmission.

If yours sounds like this I would do pan drop and flush and see if it improves the noise.

not on topic but if you make the sexy toyoda flipoff lady into a sticker I'll sooo buy 2, clear/white/black background pref!
sorry to thread pirate just tooooo lazy to write an email :D

I've been meaning to add her to the black shirt anyway. So I went ahead and did that, plus added 2 stickers.

Unfortunately, cafepress doesn't offer just the right shape for the stickers. But I bet they could be trimmed down perfectly. Maybe someday I'll pony up for the clear, laser-cut variety.

just ordered 2, I'll be sure to get some "action" shots of them on the 62. Good luck fixing your cruiser.

actually just got one more for the snowboard.. nitro resistance 155 all black top it'll look sweet :D

Just wanted to update y'all.

I got a AT filter kit from NAPA, plus 6 qts Castrol (flush), and 6 qts Dextron III / Mercon (refill), plus some sort of additive - the name escapes me. My GF and our friend Bill agreed to do the job. I wanted to at least assist, so that I could see how it's done. But for the sake of time*, I had to go finish digging out the swale, since our rock is coming today.

I did get to check in to see how it was going from time to time. When the old ATF was drained, at first it looked a nice clear reddish color, but then got black and murky. No glitter. When they did the flush, just the "normal" amount. Also, the magnets were entirely encased in a thick layer of silicone goo.

They put the first batch of ATF in it, and I went through the gears. Then they drained it, and refilled it. I took her for a spin, and she seemed dandy. I haven't had the surging issue since that morning when I first posted about it. So... I guess I'll just have to wait n see what happens.

Oh and brett -- good call on the PS fluid. I put some of that in too, and no groany sound this morning. I put some in when I first bought it, but that was 1.5 years ago!

* Thanks to my idiocy, I ran out of gas on the way to NAPA. About a week+ ago, I filled up my tank. First time I've done so in month. I eventually stopped looking at the gauge, since there was always plenty of gas. Guess I hadn't looked in 2 days, cuz I was OUT!

Stalled in an intersection, and I started freaking out, cuz I thought my tranny had bit it. I kept restarting, and found if I put it in neutral when idling, I wouldn't stall. Realized, DUH, I was just out of gas. Finally *coasted* into NAPA.

Yep, first time in my LIFE I've run out of gas. Waiting for Bill to bring me some gas ate up some our time. Then there was the whole thing where I bought synthetic, and he said I didn't need it, so I had to return it, blah blah blah.

good. so youre tip top eh

Next time I'm visiting folks out in Rimrock, I'll keep my eyes open for a gray 62 being driven by a brown dachshund.

So far so good!

Jerry's a pretty good driver:

That's my problem, same whiny thing that increases as I turn the wheel until it warms up. Time to top off!
