Luke and I went on a spur of the moment trail ride today. We went down 357A and played around a bit. We saw two trucks on a hill side and one seemed to be be stuck half way up the hill. We went over to investigate and found a Nissan with a broken tie rod, a stock Tacoma and four people standing around with the we are screwed look on their faces. Luke and I removed the threaded ends of the tie rod and wished we had one of those Ready welders but decided we needed to run back to my garage to repair it. I cut a 3" piece of angle iron while Luke cleaned up the the broken tie rod ends and I welded it all back together and we were on our way back out to the Nissian in a matter of a few minutes. We put it back together and took a couple of stabs at a front end alignment and headed up the trail. Luke had to pull the Tacoma up the hill and I ened up pulling the Nissan up. The people were from Denver so I hope they made it home OK.

That was a fun trip. The trails had just the right amount of snow to make things interesting, There was one spot in 357A coming down that made you stop breathing for a second while your butt end slid down a hillside. I am amazed so far at how well the KM2's are doing in the snow, The wife and I got into some deep stuff earlier in the day and they handled it with ease. My chevy V6 surprises me still at times at the power it can put out when you need it, even though I complain about being underpowered all the time.

I was really happy to help those people off the trail, They were contemplating what it would cost to get a tow truck to get them to a Nissan dealership when we pulled up. Ouch! They talked about going home to denver via Painted Rocks road. I headed home the same way and never saw the rig again, so they must have gotten out all right. Everything went pretty well, until I realized I lost my cell phone, Chuck can you look around in your Cruiser for it? I searched the area we were in pretty well but never saw it, Had some really good pictures I hated to lose.

Luke,

I went looking for your phone. I couldn't find it but then I heard a beep of a low battery. I found your phone in my 60. I will bring it by in the morning.

Now that's some flex! Sounds like a pretty interesting day. Have you guys ever done the battery stick welder trick?

:D

Chuck and I were talking about that, Need to try that sometime. I have heard mixed results about it, but having ugly gorilla welds has to be better than being broke down in the woods.

I forgot to mention that I took 357 home to Painted Rocks road, and there is a logging operation out there that has pretty much devastated that area. It's heartbreaking, again, not sure what the forest service was thinking on that one. I had this ride set up on the trail schedule (it is called Rule Ridge road on traildamage) but it will be changed now. Used to be some really great scenery out that way.
