I am going to order some of the Doestch 8000's for the front of my SOA 60, do you recall if that part number is
DOE-8333?

WOW old thread way to bring it back!!

Take your shocks off and measure. thats what I have always been told. And what I plan on doing.

I am going to go with Doetsch Tech 8000 prerunners as well. Heard nothing but good things about them!

I am running 4" alcans though. Havent decided about running the ford towers or not.

Do they make the Doetsch Tech with a pin top mount?

I'm running the 4" Alcans as well and have been having trouble finding a pin top shock long enough. I am going to try the Rancho RS9009, extended 26.78 and compressed 15.67- just over 11 inches of travel, and pin top mount. Initially I was going to run ford shock towers up front as i will probably go SOA some day, but decided it would be better to do the mods as a system (i.e. would rather not weld on the frame twice in the same area if I later decide to move the shocks).

I thought the bilsteins are good ones .. but I keep my omes ( relocating the points off course )

The omes ( I still thought ) are good balance for my OME suspension .. but off course always I keep the idea of more travel .. and Rancho's are not my first chioce .. maybe is OME make a extreme travel shocks go on this way.

LOL even though this is an old thread, I actually sold the DT8000's to moddogbob...

Doetsch 8000 series:
39.95 from Summit
Hydraulic not gas
13.5" travel

FWIW, I pulled them off my SOA rig even though I have very healthy springs because, again, they are just too soft particularly to prevent body roll. My $.02 on it. I have Pro Comp 9000's now (the stiff hydraulic ones). I feel lots of bumps in the pavement but they are not bad and really make the rig stable. Probably more stable than most SOA I would guess... If I were to do it again and/or could afford it, I would go with the Bilstiens. I hear good things about poly performances's Big Black Cock shocks LOL but not from anyone first hand, just over the inTARweb so I don't know if its BS hype or not. Mace I think is running them. What says you MAce?

Yeah, i'm planning on getting some cock shocks soon. Hopefully tighten things up a bit.

Working on my SOA as well. Was planing the Bilsteins 5125 all the way around but more recently I've been thinking about the Doetsh's in the back because they are softer. So this is what I'm currently thinking:
Front:
Bilstein 5125s 14"s
Back:
Doetsch 8000 series:
39.95 from Summit
Hydraulic not gas
13.5" travel
(if I can find them in a 12")

Well I finally ordered the shocks for my 4" Alcan lift I know its not SOA, but can be close if your SOA is low. (I am planning on running the ford towers.)

Front:
Doetsch 8000 series:
39.95 from Summit
Hydraulic not gas
13.5" travel

Rear:
Doetsch 8000 series:
39.95 from Summit
Hydraulic not gas
11" travel

This is the first I have heard of them not being stiff enough. I will see how I like them. Hopefully it will not be too bad with the stiffer alcan's.

Give us an update of the chicken shocks too, saw them, but didnt want to spend the $! Especially with out the knowledge of them.

Wow.

DT8000s are still out there. I'm running Bilstein 5125s, but they're a bit soft.

Get a good stiff shock and you'll be happy.

What's the weight diff btwn a 2f/3fe and your 4bt? That can effect shock dampening.

Good question! The 4BT weighs ~800# wet. The drivetrain weight should be similar, but I have not actually weighed either my current full drivetrain assembly or a stock 2F/H42/split case.

The Bilstein 5125s were soft when I still had my 2F IMO. They're good shocks, don't get me wrong, but I could have used stiffer shocks. I don't have a winch either.
