I would like to replace what I believe is still the original shocks front and rear for my 96 KZJ71. It had the electronic shocks which are still in there. Looking for a smoother ride. I get the crap beaten out of me over every bump.
Any recommendations on what’s the best shocks for my application?
Not doing any heavy off roading at this time.

I've used Old Man Emu Nitrochargers on my last two LJ78's, they've been great but not a super smooth shock. You might be better off looking at Ironman or Dobinsons or an OME shock that is adjustable.

Got some good advice here but more information might help in getting you some more focused advice:
1. What are your typical driving use cases? Tarmac, fast off road with washboards, slower technical terrain etc?
2. What is your budget?
3. Do you want adjustable shocks and if so, are you comfortable adjusting them yourself?
4. How much load do you typically carry?
5. What springs and rates are you running?

Im mostly driving on the road light off road beach etc. I live in Florida , Loads vary if Im camping and hauling its gonna be heavier. I also tow a small trailer once in a while. I dont think I need adjustable shocks but Im not against it Yes very comfortable adjusting them. I dont have a budget I will pay up for good shocks. Just looking for a smoother ride I know with the short wheelbase the ride won't be as smooth.

Given that I'd recommend the Dobinson's IMS shocks if those fit your budget. I run the Dobinson MRR's on both my trucks and love them but they do come at a premium price point since they are fully adjustable. No affiliation, just a happy customer. Bilstein makes a nice shock as well but some folks aren't fans as they are a digressive shock which might not be to your liking, given the short wheelbase. Another option are the OME's which I had on my 60 which I liked but didn't fit my needs with a loaded rig.

Good luck with your decision.

Old Man Emu ain’t what they use to be. Only brand of shocks I have ever broke in my 40+ years of offroading. Back in the day they were great. I suspect they are not made in the same factory as they were in the beginning.
Anyways your mileage may vary. Fox, Dobinson and Bilstein have not let me down as of yet.
