I have found the number one thing about Vr Isl, is that it rains and the ground is wet. Last year the 3 of us went up to Donner Lake and had a fabulous trip. Lucky it didn't really rain, but we still needed chairs cause you can't sit on the ground.
I went back up a couple of weeks later, and it rained! It was really ugly, lucky I had a 12x16 tarp but it is a PITA to set up and carry poles/ropes/string and what not.

So I got this ALCOVE shelter from REI. It is 10x10 footprint, but only 6' high. Not as big as an easi-up but the easi-up weighs 40 lbs and is too huge to want to carry. The Alcove is 28"x7" and only weighs 15 lbs. I'll be bringing home in my suitcase! http://www.rei.com/product/794290/rei-alcove-shelter

For s***s and grins I also bought a chair called a 'flex-lite' that weighs 1.1 lbs! So in the name of travelling lighter and smaller, not having crap piled 3' high in my truck, I thought I'd share. The pic is what I've been doing, which is what I'm sick of doing.
