I was at the Home Depot yesterday and noticed they now carry SharkBite plumbing fittings The SharkBite® Connection System. I had never seen these before. Does anyone have any experience using these and do they work as advertised? While not cheap I can see where they would come in very handy in close quarters where sweating pipe can be a PITA.

I bought two 1/2" pipe caps and the removal tool for my next emergency plumbing job where I want to cap off a supply line fast and not have to sweat on a cap.

I could see the benefit for capping a line while doing remodeling/repair work, but for a permanent trouble free install, I'd rather sweat it.

Been on my hot water heater for a few years....IMHO I would put them wherever I could afford to, much quicker and easier than sweating fittings, don't like the fit, pop it off and change it. It looks like a low pressure version of ferrule tube fittings.

I use them for temp caps, but aside from the cost (the labor savings make up for the cost IMO) I don't trust something like that to hold forever. Then again, I don't trust PEX or CPVC or any other plastic for water behind walls and under slabs. I am impressed that they are listed for use underground though, apparently someone trusts them. :D
