Shackle lift???

yeah, i had the TRXUS STS, they are great if you like the sand, but like you said, they suck on the road, yeah i've been checkin them out, i just haveto save up b/c i'm in school right now and don't really have much income, i've got a few buddies with "trail" rigs that i usually ride with, i have to keep mine a DD, i'm not nearly into wheelin enough to get like a TSL or something like that, were there any fitment issues with putting the 33x10.5's on stock wheels??

None at all, they fit great.

If this isn't a heavy wheeling rig, and mostly a DD, then I HIGHLY recommend the BFG AT's... great all around tire and they wear like iron if you rotate often. Great value.

My brother in law sruns those wacky looking TrXus ST's for a street tire on his lifted Jeep and likes them... Odd looking tread though. :) :)

I have a set of 2" over stock (1" lift) daystar shackles on my desk (thanks fedex!). Along with a set of 2.5" wide 4 degree shims. Wasn't sure exactly what I needed for degree, so decided to go with the 4 deg. Hoping I can make my 35" tire fit better on my 2.5" spring lift, 1" body lift, cut fender abomination of a lift. :D . Whatever it takes man.

All that effort, and I've already started buying parts for SOA. It'll probably be next spring before I collect everything.

thanks majanrk

sorry for the newbee question. im just trying to catch up with the rest of you guys.

for every one inch you have on a lifted shackle it only lifts your rig a half an inch.

Think this is really dependent on shackle angle. If your shackle angle is straight vertical then actual lift will be close to the shackle lift quoted. I have at least a 45 degree angle on shackles from the HFS springs which are longer than stock springs. This increases the shackle angle and does not allow as much lift from the shackle ( about half). Basic geometry.

Also as springs sag, your shackle angle also increases so this lowers the vehicle 2 fold.

Make sense.

Actually, since you are only lifting one side of the spring, you only get half the quoted lift, at best.

this is true. When you buy a spring lift, the springs are typically a bit longer. This gives you too much shackle angle, which can also be cured by using extended shackles.

PO of my 60 installed the Downey 2.5 shackles. They clear 31s ok, and look like they would clear 33s, but I'm sure the 33s would only work around town and would stuff bad off road.

Should get my new Dakars soon. ;)
