The series 40s had several different diesel engines in them. Is there a link which shows photos of each of the engines to help identify them.

Here is one that I snapped the other day. I would love to know which engine this is.

Also, another engine I saw has a "B" on it with no numbers in front of it. I know that there are engines that could say 13B, etc. Anyway, help is much appreciated.

In Land Cruisers, Toyota put the B, 2B, 3B, 13B-T, and a couple others from that line (4 cyl)

The one pictured looks like either an H or 2H. There is also the 12H-T, 1HZ and HD variants in later models (6 cyl).

Hope that helps, a Google search or a query in the diesel section may help with photos

The model number is stamped on the block B=4 cylinder diesel, H=6 cylinder diesel, F=6 cylinder gasoline.
Here are 2 examples

Looks like a 2H to me. Edit: No. More probably an earlier H -engine on second thoughts.

There's some info in this thread (but not enough engine photos really):

PS. B with no numbers in front means it's the 2977cc B engine (which could conceivably be labelled as a 1B but Toyota never put/used the "1" there).

I edited my earlier post towards thinking that other engine is an H diesel (rather than the later-model 2H) .... but I could still be wrong there.

As for the second engine ..... Same deal... I think it is another H (which is an early six-cylinder Toyota diesel as used in Land Cruiser HJ45 models).

The B-series engines have their injector pumps on the left whereas the H-series have theirs on the right.

And I'm saying H rather than 2H based on the design of the leakage piping connecting to the injectors.

PS. A 3B is a 4 cylinder engine so the first thing to do is count the number of injectors. If there's six then it can't possibly be any B-series engine.
