I can't wait until he gets it back so we can get some better pictures. I always thought that Oz got the frame and running gear but that the body stopped at the cowl, windshield and running boards. The sides and doors are not Toyota but the seats are. So did they get a model that has a enough floor for the front seats? Interesting
Maybe they came that way so they could drive to and from the boat docks, also they had somewhere to mount the gas tank. The litature always showed the body stopping at the cowl. Hmmmm

Every thing about the back half of the body looks fishy... Like it all rusted out and someone replaced it with steel, ignoring the body contours...

Best we can tell the first Aussie cruisers were cowl and chassis. The bodies must have been made locally. Here's the Theiss Toyota 25 and another FJ28, you'll see the same type of square doors and square rear body.

From you guys opnion, is this worth the $500.00 and the probably $200 in fuel to go get it? would I be buying something of a rarity?
Im not really familiar with FJ25's, what sort of questions should I be asking the seller so I can get an idea of how rare/unusual/salvagable it is..
If I buy another car, im sure to get divorced, so I need to be sure its gunna be worth it...
The number plates are from different states, so they have no sequence. I do know being from the state of the BPL698 plate, that that number dates at around 1959-1960, and from what I can gather looking at photos from other cars from the state of Victoria, that the 'H' lettering sequence begun in 1956 and ended early 1958...

Yes, it's extremely rare. The rear bodies are a mystery to us, they must have been made in Australia. This particular one has a longer wheelbase and extended rear frame which would make it an FJ28 I think. We never got them, there are pictures of few examples in Australia but I think that's it.
If you plan on restoring or preserving it (it should be) things that will make it easier for you if they are there will be:
1- transmission - 4 speed, non-synchro 1st and 2nd.
2- transfer case -single speed in-out 4WD with a band style parking brake on the output.
3- brakes - all cast iron master cylinders (no metal or plastic reservoirs)
4- axles - diffs are about 3" or so longer than a FJ40 diff.
5- Instrument Cluster - no oil or voltage gauges, idiot lights, silver background speedometer face.
6-Engine- everything is pretty much the same as the early 60's FJ40 F135 motor except the water temp and oil sender.
Even if it's a total piece of junk it's still worth picking up, maybe someone here would want you as a local contact.
If you could just get the VIN# from the data plate or front frame rail, curious what it begins with. For example a 1958 might be 8FJ25-1xxxx the 8 being the date of manufacture. FJ25 the model, don't know if the 25, 28 and other models had a different VIN#.
If you go look at it, pleeeeeeeeease take lots of pictures.
