I have a 2nd gen 4Runner that I am preparing to do a SAS on. I have an axle housing from an 85 4Runner, and I'm looking at what route to go for a diff. Across various forums, tech sites and Facebook postings it seems that 1990+ 70 Series Land Cruisers had 8" high pinion front diffs. However, there's lots of variations of 70 series (71, 73, 78, etc), and I'd imagine there could be different options across different years/models/trims/markets.
I did some searching in the 70-Series Tech forums here, and this thread (Build - Rocklander 77-series build - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/rocklander-77-series-build.1377382/page-3#post-16249918) seems to state pretty clearly that mid-90's 70 series "have an 8", high pinion just like an 80".
I have two follow-up questions that I can't seem to find answers to:
1) Does this mean that a 70 series 8" front diff would bolt up to a USDM straight axle housing like mine? Is it the same 10-bolt pattern?
2) Do the more modern 70 series still have the same 8" front diffs?
Thank you!
