I've noticed the past week or two that my nav screen will flicker occasionally. I normally only notice out of the corner of my eye that something changed but cant ever catch it in the process. Then yesterday it started flickering a lot. Like once every 2 seconds or so. Just a split second of black and then right back to normal. It happened regardless of what view I have up; climate, home, nav, audio, etc. It was only a 10 minute drive but it happened the entire way there. On the way back, it didn't seem to happen at all. So that was weird.

Then this morning during another short drive it was doing it again, only this time the blackout was closer to a full second during the 20 minute drive. Then on the way home, it didn't happen at all (that I noticed).

It's a '16 with 120k, if that makes a difference. TIA.

Seems likely a loose or corroded connection. Everything else ok electrically? Battery in good condition with clean terminals? Any water or dampness inside?

no trace of water anywhere, battery terminals are perfect. I would also lean toward a loose connection, but it's very odd how intermittent it is. Like how could it be horribad for the entirety of one drive, then 10 mins later be perfect for the duration of that drive. Makes no sense.

During the periods where the screen is totally dark, the touch screen still works. For instance I can change the radio preset by guessing where the button is.

It also seems to do it when it is being driven for the first time "in a while." Subsequent drives after it's warmed up, the problem seems to go away.

Hmmm……..if it’s just the screen light, I think it might be worthwhile to remove the display unit from the dash, make sure all the connectors are clean with no corrosion, then put it back together and see if that fixes it. Have you done a search on here for similar issues?

I have searched, but my ih8mud-foo isn't quite polished yet. I didn't turn anything up, but it's all about asking the question the right way.

It’s also about using google. In a google search, use: 200 Land Cruiser navigation screen flicker ih8mud

I’m pretty sure I’ve read in this section about someone replacing the LCD screen in theirs with one sourced from china or eBay or whatever. Same symptoms, blank screen, but the digitizer (touch screen) still worked.

I think.

Edit: I spent some time searching for the post I was thinking about but couldn’t find it. So I may be getting confused. Or I can’t search effectively..

Did you ever figure out what the issue was and fix? I have a 2016 that’s doing the same thing

No.. I wasn't clear but I never had the issue, just read about others having it.

My 2016 started doing this yesterday. I figured it was my Hamilton carplay unit on the fritz, but now I'm not sure.
I had a similar issue and it was a loose positive battery terminal.

Mine just started a few weeks ago where it will only play beatsonic carplay on the screen and anything native is black. After some time native screen options work again, but there's no pattern as to what causes it. Figure it has to do with the beatsonic unit as its always been finicky since install (kicking out of carplay to native map at least once a drive). Lived with it, but now with this I may have to sort it out.

This has also happened to my 2016 once. I also thought it was my Hamilton but it only happened once.

I'm contemplating uninstalling my Hamilton unit and seeing if that helps. OP doesn't mention running anything other than stock but seems like several of us with the problem are running some kind of aftermarket projection/streaming unit.

Digitizer (touch control) works throughout the flickering, so seems like display only. No audio or BT interruption. Flickers on both Hamilton display and OEM. Haven't figured out any patterns as to when it happens, but it started 3 days ago and now does it about 3 out of every 4 drives. Sometimes within a few minutes of startup then stops, or most often in the later stages of my 30–45-minute commute.

I’m thinking loose cable. I had this when I first plugged my GROM in. The unit intercepts the video signal. Reseating the connector did the trick.
