Hehe, well some of my favorite mods are: Pinning the key button down on top of the steering column, so you don't have to mess with it every time you take the key out. Powering the front rear window switch so you can use it with the key out. (Mod is done at the relay box in the side panel behind the drivers door. Find the constant power, and jump it to the switched power, and cut the switched power wire so it doesn't backfeed.) Oh, and dual cases with a 4.7!!!
Thats so funny, the first thing i did the morning after i drove it back home was to take the steering wheel cover off and fiqure out a way to hold that key realease button down.
I didnt see anything in FAQ, maybe i missed it. The rear window power-with-key-off mod is on the list. I did take the tailgate cover off and cleaned and lubed all the rear window mechanism yesterday, man what a difference!
Here's what i did to hold the button down after removing the steering wheel's plastic cover:
While holding the button down, i drilled a hole small enough to self tap a 4/40 set screw into the metal casting and then the plastic button. I didn't drill it all the way through because it didnt seem necessary.
For your rear seat issue:
Go ahead and buy a bad looking set of 1st gen seats and then swap the cushions from your 2nd gen seats onto the frames of the 1st gen seats. Make sure that the 1st gen seats are split and not one piece.
Here's my write up:
Hmmm. Problem solved. Thanks a bunch for the link. I saw that WO ages ago and found it interesting so i read it but it didn't pertain to me at the time because i didn't have a 4Runner. Thanks!
Fortunatly i havent drilled any holes and have just set them in place. My son's buddy has a 88 with shreaded rear seats that i might be able to talk into giving up.
