I recently traded for a 1973 FJ40 with a 400 sbc and the factory 3 speed and transfer case. The clutah is short and after reading up on transmissions the 3 speed is not a desirable tranny. I have access to a sm465 and np203 but what does that mean for the offset rear differential? If I stay with the 3 speed which clutch do i use?

I have had good luck with the Centerforce Chevota clutch on two rigs. You could also use a regular chevy clutch and the NP 465, then an adapter to the Toyota transfer case. I did that on one of mine. John

I Think that SM465-NP203- Cruiser t-case would be a GREAT setup for your FJ40.
Advance Adapters should have everything you need.

Good setup, but makes for a very short rear driveshaft. John
