I’m planning on making it out, hopefully to see the rhodonite mine but open to other ideas.

Sure, we can hit the mine, and then there are tons of trails back in that area we can explore ('hill 60') if we want.

OK all, I think this is a 'go'. Weather looks like it will be rainy; but that just adds to the whole experience IMHO.

Lets meet here at 9am Saturday morning: 48°47'50.7"N 123°53'02.2"W · Cowichan Valley, BC, Canada - https://goo.gl/maps/mZo7cxfKAFoLHcqu9

Bring a lunch for yourselves. Also, bring a rock or prospecting hammer if you have one. Eye protection might be a good idea too...lol

@Westcoast78 @Rigpig : can you guy's make it? @seapotato : you've gotta work this weekend I think? Or are you feeling a bit 'under the weather', haha. :hmm:

Saturday? I'm actually off, but I'm not sure if swmbo has something on the go or not.

I'll see if I can get a cruiser in some sort of shape for it tho.
Really have to sort out a skid plate for the green thing so I can take it on one of these. Maybe this week.:hhmm:

Yup, Saturday. The road up to the mine is pretty easy and fine for a stock 4x4....as long as you're ok with some scratching from Alder on the road.

There are other trails around there that are more challenging we can hit if people are into it. Even then, most are pretty tame; just challenging enough to be fun. Quite pretty and enjoyable tho.

But if this is an excuse for more cruiser improvements....why not.

I wanna go but I’m worried my spare tire is much smaller than the tires currently on the truck. I have a proper size spare tire, just need to mount it on the spare rim. No shop will just do it, they want me to leave it with them and it’ll get done when they are less busy. I mean just do it, it only takes 10 minutes!

Haha any excuse. Really just because I have that tcase brake disc that's out in the open right now.

And Mr78 reminds me...I should probably take a spare tire too if I was to drive the 40.

If you don’t mind scuffing the rim it’s doable to mount a tire yourself with two pry bars and a ratchet strap. Actually probably a good skill to practice, You can’t walk into any business these days and get instant service anymore. balancing properly needs a shop though but for a spare not necessary.

I wouldn't worry about it too much for this trip. A spare something that holds air and rolls is good enough. Worst case someone else can lend a spare. I have a repair kit also....just don't slice your sidewalls open; cant fix that...haha

Are you ok getting some BC pin striping from Alder branches?

Worst case we can always rig something like this. I'll have a saw and axe....:D

Can I bring my 5 year old daughter?

Absolutely. I was going to bring my kids, but daughter has swimming lesson and son has a b-day to go to, so won't work this time. But yeah, this one is a pretty quick location and kids like breaking rocks with hammers. There will be the option to go home after we hit the mine, or do more wheeling through the afternoon. So not sure if your daughter is into bouncing around in a truck all day; but at least you'll have options.

Install GAIA GPS app on your phone before this trip. You can download maps for offline use (just google how to do that). The app is free, but if you pay $45 a year, you get access to much better maps that are worth it IMHO (like all the back roads map book maps for canada, nautical charts, etc.). If you turn the app on at the start of the offroad, then you can easily find your way back the way you came at any point.

I usually don't even carry a spare on my 40. Waste of space when bcaa's number is in my phone.

Or I guess we can call Bradford if we want to see someone sweating their bag off for 2 hours to save 20 bucks.

Apparently he's prepping for some post zombie apocalypse tire changing action.

Psst...While you're changing that tire is when they'll eat your brains.. :flipoff2:

Your too late the zombies are already here, just work a night shift downtown Victoria.

Have the right tire for the rim and it doesn’t take 2 hours. it’s good to know when you break the bead on your tire aired down and it’s full of mud or snow. Never had to worry about getting a patch either.

I spent a day swapping tires on my lawn tractor, it sucked.

Rears weren't so bad but the fronts were too small for my ratchet straps.

Almost bought one of those manual tire changing tools because I was getting so many flats.
